“everybody I don’t like is a fascist”
Comment on Why are you wearing his tee-shirt

The revolution freed the slaves in Cuba, ended its colonialism by the US, provided free medicine and education for every citizen, reformed land so there were no big landlords any longer, created vast amounts of infrastructure in rural areas that did not have any before this, and much, much more.

I don’t like fascists, and Fulgencio Batista certainly was.

Is that the only person che murdered? The post sugeested a few other people. Were all the murdered gays also fascists?
Cowbee@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
Gay people weren’t murdered. The revolutionary government did continue the former reactionary policy towards gay people and imprisoned them, but this was corrected and overturned through the newly implemented democratic system. Today, Cuba is one of the most LGBTQIA+ countries on the planet thanks to their popular Family Code.

You are absolutely correct–while this will probably be buried among all the other replies, I want to share the video essay by overzealots that confronts the liberal media’s propaganda/disinformation campaign surrounding the Cuban revolution.

Cuba has more doctors per sq. inch than another country in NA. Everybody in Cuba is highly educated despite it being a place where not the smartest people vacation to. Only reason Cuba is not an economic power house is because of the embargo that’s been going on for 50 years.

indeed. the biggest reason socialism fails is because capitalists keep kneecaping it, not because its a flawed system.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
The narrative that socialism has always failed is also wrong, too. Cuba is doing far better than they would have for its people had it remained a sugar colony. China is quickly advancing to the top of the world stage. Socialism does work, despite siege, even if it would do better without it.

Shit I’d argue Cubans got it better then Americans rn. At least thier cancer gets treated.

“How many left countries do I need to destroy to show you that it does not work?” - Every US intelligence agency, probably

Yep! It’s also resource poor as an island, which makes it that much more impressive!

Ok, but Guevara got kicked out of Cuba because all he wanted was war. He was also a bastard to his own troops.
kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
No, he left (and abdicated all of his own titles and citizenship) to go fight against imperialism in the Congo.
SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Not actual history, but believe what you want. You don’t always want military revolutionaries running a country after revolution. See Stalin.
