And posting genuine news about what is going to be one of the biggest gaming events of our lifetimes just gets downvoted here. Come on, people; it’s clearly relevant. You don’t have to upvote it, but then when people downvote anything they personally dislike, you end up with people who only get their gaming news here saying, “I’ve never heard of [one of the biggest games of the year].”

I’ve seen way way way more here on Lemmy bitching about GTA 6 than I have seen actually about it. The complaining about rockstar and GTA 6 is probably 80% of all the rockstar content I see here.

One of the most nonsensical things I see, the whole downvoting things that you don’t like or don’t agree with, even if it’s still being put in a negative light or the person is just curious and asking about it. Happens all over reddit, especially in comments. Obviously if someone’s stating rather than questioning and being bad faith or argumentative then I can understand it but it still happens all the time when they aren’t

Seeing as Lemmy does nothing different than Reddit on a fundamental level, it’s no surprise we see the same problems. We’re just partially shielded from some of them by way of being a smaller community.

It’s that it’s not downvoting at this point. It’s brigading. That’s what I’m really annoyed at. It’s not that people disagree, it’s that everyone dogpiles on because GTA bad must hit downvote to send it to -1000. That ruins it for those who do want to enjoy it and makes it harder to see, and then we can’t have an honest conversation about it until someone posts “hey it’s kind of annoying that it’s being brigaded”

hahaha how do I get on the payroll for Rockstar marketing like you?
ampersandrew@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I’m not. It’s a statement of fact, and I don’t see the point in pretending it isn’t.

This is one of my biggest complaints about Lenny. And it has given me a new perspective on those around me in nerd spaces. 😔
Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 11 hours ago
Lemmy does not consist of nerd spaces though.
It’s a combination of reddit ‘refugees’ who went looking for something better(and got that for a few months) and the absolute trash that made reddit reddit and now comes to lemmy to keep behaving the same way.
And somehow all of them got banned for no reason at all. Or because the mod didn’t like them, a classic that one.

Maybe nerd is too specific. I just mean “online people” I guess. But I personally have a focus on tech, games, video, etc. It’s something I’m increasingly self aware about, after spending the time since 2020 more online. Including in synchronous online spaces.
The spaces I’m talking about felt very different to me 15+ years ago. And the synchronous space I’m talking about felt very different 9 years ago.

Seriously there has been maybe 3-4 posts about GTA 6 on this community in the last 2 months and every single one of them is full of people whining that they don’t want to hear about it. It’s so overblown.
GTA 6 is one of - if not the - highest budget games ever made. In one of the most popular and successful franchises of all time. It’s the biggest release of the last few years whether they like it or not. Now… You’re telling me we should stop talking about it in gaming communities because Lemmy users want to get back to talking about Linux and whatever 6/10 open source game is doing the rounds?
Sorry for the harshness but these posts and comments are so annoying. If you don’t want to talk about AAA games then why are you in the gaming community?
Cethin@lemmy.zip 11 hours ago
I wouldn’t be as annoyed by hearing about it if Rockstar were an upstanding company. The union busting though means they should not be given any good PR at minimum, and ideally none.
I don’t care if people want to discuss big games. We shouldn’t accept positive discussion of games that are made by companies who treat their employees poorly. That should be a bare minimum rule people on this platform hold to. I don’t care how excited you are for the game. You don’t get to promote it.
ScoopMcPoops@lemmy.world 1 hour ago
Well then you might as well ban almost every single gaming company from this community. Should this just be a CDPR, Blizzard, and Bethesda forum?

I actually do agree with you. I am tired of people only complaining and brigading on anything GTA. Its so cringey to me, they could simply ignore the content, but instead have to make sure everyone knows they’re on the Lemmy bandwagon. They’re hipsters, plain and simple. They are too cool for the next star wars and biggest game of the decade, and they have to make sure eeeeveryone knows this. I am excited for the game and wish I could engage more with that side.
