They don’t give a shit. They’re a $2.75 trillion dollar company. People will keep paying them, and they don’t have to change anything. These types of issues are nothing to Microsoft. They couldn’t care less.
Comment on Xbox Player Gets Banned for 1 Year After Recording Baldur's Gate 3 Scenes

Company with market cap of $2.75 trillion can’t even plan a fucking feature properly and then blames the gamers for their own fucking stupidity.
Also, I’ll honestly be shocked if MS views this as “bad press” since it was only a few years ago that they ignored all the bad press when it come to banning Minecraft players for things they said in their own private servers.
That still happens, the bad press stopped happening, but people still lose access to Minecraft for what they do in private worlds that are “friends only.” Their friends are consenting to this, and no one who doesn’t want to see these chats ever sees them, but Microsoft doesn’t fucking care.
I think people wanting to say horrible stuff on their own server is disgusting, but what’s more disgusting is the weird Microsoft Nanny State that says you can be banned permanently for that, when no one who objects to it will actually see it.
I expect Microsoft to stand firm that they don’t give a shit about bad press.

From what I’ve seen, there’s an easy-to-use fanmade way to turn it off, and those smart enough to run a server have it off.

The chat reporting help page also lays out that reports must be initiated by a player and will be reviewed by the moderation, which should hopefully limit the false-report problems sometimes associated with more automated moderation systems.
If that happens you kind of have to assume your 'friend' reported you.

Honestly, Nazis and shitty people use those crevasses to hide their plots and they don’t deserve nice things or safe spaces.

I agree, but I also don’t think the solution is surveillance either. It shouldn’t be our go-to solution to to read everyone’s messages because some people are douchecanoes.
Anticorp@lemmy.world 10 months ago
I agree with you, but that is the solution that people in power have put in place. Even the government unconditionally monitors everything. This is the world we live in now.

Are you also one of the people who would ban all pornography because a teen might watch it somewhere, somehow?
More surveillance and control is not the answer. In fact, it’s never the answer, unless the question is “what is an overbearing infringement on civil liberty?”
SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 months ago
And you believe the tools of oppression will never be turned on the Left?
Even though it’s regularly turned on the left way more often than Nazis?
As much as it sucks, eliminating safe spaces for Nazis results in eliminating safe spaces for everyone.
Corporations don’t pretend to care about minorities because they think they have inherent value to their lives, they pretend to care about them, because they figured out that not catering to minorities is leaving money on the table. Corporations don’t like not completely owning an entire market.
The same reason they started giving a shit about women, racial minorities, and LGBTQA+ people is the reason they still market to Nazis.
They don’t care what your politics are, they don’t care if you’re Red or Blue. The only thing they care about is the Green money in your pocket.
They won’t root out Nazis because they won’t purposefully choose to not take Nazi money.

To this day I wish Mojang didn’t get bought out by Microsoft
