iirc smoke machines actually produce water as fog, not smoke. But i could be misremembering

Creating ANY kind of smoke should be banned in public. By public I don’t mean just bus stops and trains and shit. Literally anywhere but maybe your house. And smoking indoors is even more disgusting. Smoking in your garden? Is there anyone living within ~20 feet? Forbidden. Smoke machines on concerts may have an exemption.
I also fucking had enough of people making fires every fucking time the weather gets too hot for me to keep my windows closed. Then my bedroom smells like the great fire of London and good luck having a good night’s sleep like that.

What’s your opinion on Aboriginal smoking ceremonies?
Dicska@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I don’t get the downvote, it’s in fact an interesting question. However, sorry, I’m keeping it unpopular: healthy or not (research has shown it has antimicrobial effects), it’s still an annoyance for everyone else.
I can walk around with a water pistol filled with vitamin water, shooting people in the face. Just because it contains vitamins (IT’S GOT ELECTROLYTES!) it doesn’t magically make it non-annoying.

I have literally never met anyone who was annoyed by the smoke from smoking ceremonies. I’ve seen headlines in the news about racist people angry that smoking ceremonies were held at football games, but that was because the white people objected to the political meaning of the ceremony. Smoking ceremonies are held at special events, advertised ahead of time, and I’ve never seen the smoke go beyond the boundaries of the event to a visible degree. I’ve attended and been blessed at two smoking ceremonies, and they were both really positive experiences.

Omg please ban camp fires at national parks. I came here to breath the fresh air of the mountains and the forest, not to feel like I’m a coal miner in West Virginia.

I think smoking should be made prohibitively expensive. So much that nobody wants it anymore.

Places have tried that. People just switch to cheaper and tax free contraband cigarettes.
Dicska@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I wish such a price existed… Unlike parking violations which are just parking fees for the rich.
Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 3 weeks ago
This is one of the things that the Netherlands is doing well. There’s a huge extra tax on cigarettes. I think one cigarette costs about 50-75 euro cents. It should be more imo but it’s in the right direction.

Does this include bbq and smokers?
Dicska@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Well, this is an unpopular opinion discussion. It does.
I knew BBQ would be a touchy one, especially among US users. I think it should be possible to have them, but preferably at places that can organise them in parks, or something.
LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
BBQ is overrated. Especially in the US.
Dicska@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I guess you just offended a BBQ lover. There’s 8 billion of us, I don’t see why one would downvote someone for having different preferences. Claiming it overrated was a bold move, though.

Thanks for explaining!

And internal combustion engines?
Dicska@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Good question. I don’t see why people would keep their engine running for an extended period at home, so why not. Exempt on the roads of course.

i thought this was unpopular opinions! ‘everyone should be allowed to drive on roads’ doesn’t sound unpopularto me!

You know what? Now I agree with Dicska, let’s get these things banned
