oh, we’re supposed to disagree with this? he’s right, and it’s Bush’s fault. because of “no child left behind” we’re letting kids who can’t read graduate high school. now, that’s not to say they should never graduate, but rather that they should have been taught to read, and not allowed to advance until they can

The “kids aren’t literate anymore” line really runs afoul of the abysmal state of standardized testing. Case in point:

  A test that is a joke with no setup and a dangling punchline. Of course, there is no way to argue for any of the options. For the company that makes the tests, there is only one correct answer.
  
  The actual joke is that a private company is in charge of making tests for students.
  
  And the correct answer is that the animals ate the pineapple because they wanted (as there is no justification for the fruit murder) and the wisest animal is the owl because they didn’t show up for this clusterfuck of a story.

    But absent a marginal performance dip in the wake of COVID, overall US rates have been relatively flat for the first quarter of the 21st century.
