No argument there. I’m very glad to have GPS whenever I’ve been on a boat, but if I absolutely had to, the BSA taught me to use a compass and astrolabe with a current chart.

Which sort of paints Poseidon as incompetent. You’d imagine that the God of the sea would be able to reliably kill people at sea.

Sounds intentional to have Odysseus suffer and long for home, instead of killing him off quickly. The gods want to be entertained as well.
