I don’t wanna sound like one of those “you said we should improve society, yet you live in it”. That said, you can say what you can say about the US (since you got the First Amendment), but how can say that yet you live in the US? Are you aware of the irony of living in the US in order to decry the country?

Theory: the death of Harambe was the moment that an entire cohort realized that the world is a deeply unfair place. So Harambe represents when their innocent internal world fell apart. I.e., they were young at the time.
The evils of the AmeriKKKan empire vastly predate poor Harambe’s death. It’s been a white supremacist, settler-colonialist, patriarchal capitalist project from the very moment white people landed here.

If you ever conflate a people with a country, you’ve made a big, dangerous logical fallacy.
I live here because I was born here. That says nothing about my moral character.
I’ve done what I can as a citizen. It has not been enough. I’m not going to stop.

I’m gonna be real with you: if I actually went out and said this shit in public, I would be arrested, First Amendment be damned. People are currently being arrested for saying way tamer stuff. I am relying on the simple fact that Lemmy is a tiny anti-capitalist platform that the government doesn’t know or care about. Law in AmeriKKKa binds the poor and protects the rich. It’s always been this way, e.g. gun control got implemented after the Black Panthers armed themselves after generations of being terrorized by white gun owners. It’s just that Trump and company are too cheap to even lie to you about it anymore.
Don’t take this personally, but I truly find appeals to the Constitution as “oh look at the freedoms you’re using but decrying” meme to be particularly infuriating. Like I don’t oppose freedom of speech, I just want it to actually apply to everyone, and I want there to be negative consequences for fascists who use their freedom of speech to take freedom of speech and literally everything else away from everyone else.
Are you aware of the irony of living in the US in order to decry the country?
Yeah I was born here and I can’t get out and stay out. If I could magically get out and stay out, I would leave immediately, never return, and not even say goodbye to anyone in the States until I’m halfway around the world. I wouldn’t even sell or throw out my shit, I’d just go and never return. There’s zero fucking irony about being born in a shit hole I can’t escape.
Whenever AmeriKKKa appeals to human rights… it’s a pretext for whatever awful bullshit they want to do. AmeriKKKa is less interested, than literally any other group in the universe, in preserving your human rights. They only ever care about human rights when they can be invoked to justify violating someone else’s rights.
That doesn’t mean I reject freedom or the rights that AmeriKKKa pays lip service to. From a principled anarcho-communist position, i.e. a position where freedom of speech, freedom of thought, autonomy, consent, and equality are core values, I reject AmeriKKKa and its bullshit promises because it fails to even attempt these values, only ever using them as a cudgel to destroy people and movements who actually do want to live by these values. And no, there’s not a Platonic ideal version of AmeriKKKa that does implement these promises but is just a handful of bad apples from perfection. AmeriKKKa has always been a colonizing mission from minute one. You can’t fix that. AmeriKKKa needs to be 100% rejected. No exceptions. No subtlety. Clean break.

You do think the US should’ve become a socialist country during the Great Depression?
PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@anarchist.nexus 2 weeks ago
Short answer: yes, basically.
Long answer: Well I’m an anarcho-communist so the US should have never become a country ever. Countries are bad, full stop.
But I would definitely have preferred it become a socialist country over a capitalist one. The Great Depression would have made for sensible timing since labor was more powerful back then. However, my view is that the best time for socialism (anarcho-communism) is all the time, i.e. there would be no point waiting for a “Great Depression”, because capitalism is a system of death and destruction, so intentionally allowing it to continue is a form of human sacrifice.

Good, hope you stay out of jail, and thank you for speaking out. But at the same time … people are being arrested for protesting Delaney Hall, and pro-Palestinian groups have been getting arrested since the Biden administration.
Either you’ve not really said anything too politically incorrect (w.r.t. the Trump administration’s political dogma), you have been maintaining excellent security culture, you have the social skills required to deescalate monsters, you’re lucky, or some combination thereof.
Also … I am literally autistic. Police officers view me and my particular neuroses with suspicion in even the least charged situations. So excuse me for being paranoid.

This, but instead of your rant against the US, just humans in general. Every country has those kinds of people that would enable evil. The only difference is that that in different places their evilness is allowed in different amounts/representation.

rant against the US
You call that a rant? This is a rant! 😆
The only difference is that that in different places their evilness is allowed in different amounts/representation.
Yes exactly. AmeriKKKa in particular allows for the maximal evil as a function of the maximal ignorance our privilege buys us. There are privileged people in every country, but AmeriKKKa has a culture which disproportionately exalts the characteristics of privilege, in particular our ability to be ignorant. In short: AmeriKKKa has a bourgeois culture.
Like if AmeriKKKan settlers acted even a fraction as ignorant and uncurious as we do in the global South, we would all end up in nameless fucking graves as deaths by ignorance of the world we live in.

It’s really not, but AmeriKKKan settlers are so uncurious and shallow that it needs to be spoon-fed to them.
