That’s a HIPAA violation in the US. It’s a huge mistake. Hospitals lose cases in the millions over one.

Is there any place that even let’s you know that your blood has been used and who received it? That seems needlessly risky.

Where I give blood just tells you when its sent to a hospital and which hospital got it.
I’ll do a quick look up of the hospital if its one I haven’t seen before, but other than that I have no idea who got it.

Not in my country. I just give blood, get free chocolate and a day off work, that’s all that matters to me.

Where I am, you get a message when it’s been used, but obviously not any identifying information.
Also I have absolutely no way of knowing if the message is legit or they just tell you that a random time after your donation regardless just to make it feel good and donate again.

I could see the point in that. Here you don’t even know if the donated blood will be used for research or for life saving operations.
