  Depending on the age it may not be illegal but it does constitute academic misconduct, precisely because it leaves the professor open to blackmail e.g. exactly this.

        Usually there’s pretty instant and severe consequences if it’s one of YOUR students, but if they’re not in your class it’s just “legal but creepy age difference”.
