I like the King James Version of those verses cause Jonathan talks to David about their seed.

Prostrate, not prostate but still sounds like it was a good time.
Unfortunately this is probably all propaganda. As I understand it, many scholars believe that many of these stories are Davidic propaganda, and that David most likely killed Saul and Jonathan (and Saul’s whole family) in a sort of coup.
But assuming that is true, it’s quite likely that Solomon coup’d David and the whole Bathsheba story was meant to legitimize Solomon as a successor.
Take this with a grain of salt because I’m just a fascinated layman, and my recapitulation is likely limited by my level of understanding.

I just like confronting old testament bible-thumping chuds with this scripture. I don’t care nearly as much about the provenance of the stories as I do about the fragile toxic masculinity of religious men.

It’s a great use case for a bible verse and I am totally here for it.

I always took the Bible as a lot or bullshit, but I never really gave any thoughts to scholars picking it apart. That’s pretty cool to think about.

Here’s a fun fact: Some scholars believe Genesis 1 is a later addition than the rest of the story, because Judaism was originally polytheistic.

It mentions Baal, in a way that’s more concerned than it needs to be.
