It could also just be that your parents are polyamorus and don’t know how to have that conversation with you. I have friends who have lots of short and long term partners that aren’t in the business world at all, they’re just poly. And honestly, poly is nice cuz you can get your needs met even if your primary partner isn’t into that.

You don’t know what other kinks they have. There could easily be cuck or paypig or hotwife kink aspects involved that explain the wording.
Maybe it’s because I’m poly and have a wide circle of kinky and poly friends that this doesn’t seem even remotely implausible.

Not literal. Just like fixing a friends bike for a few slices of pizza is not ‘literally’ running a bike shop. Mutually exchanging favors can just be a win-win, and it can be very close to prostitution depending on the involved peoples mindset.
