CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 1 day agoA failed state doesn’t just imply the fall of a government, it refers to a degradation of the conditions of a country such that effective governance by anyone is impossible for a period. Think like has happened in Somalia, or Haiti. I’m not going to claim that the Iranian government is a particularly admirable one, but that kind of condition would be even worse for the people living there, and the chances of that process resting in something significantly better when the country finally recovers again aren’t terribly high.

TBH I think even total anarchy, with roving bands of raiders, might be better than a country that wages war on every neighbor and kills thousands of protestors in a short time period. The fact that they ally themselves with China is just more on the pile.

no I’m advocating that attacking institutions of medicine and science runs counter to actually improving anything you claim to care about

Random fact: Gaza depends on Israel for both its water and electricity. I’ve never found a “genocide believer” who can explain why Israel would continue to provide both if it truly is attempting to commit a genocide.

It doesn’t have to be, but it certainly can be. I’ll have you know that the roving band of raiders are well read anarcho-communists helpfully enforcing their anti-hierarchical beliefs via a system of rotating shifts of enforcers of public safety and security, and forcefully redistributing food. It’s just that this specific case happens to involve killing everyone who disagrees with them.
