Neighbour is dogsitting an Australian shepherd this week. The dog’s owner is a mutual friend.
Neighbour had to run errands today and the dog is crying. Messaged neighbour that I’m taking the dog to my house (have keys to his joint) and he can stay out longer.
Doggo is snoozing on the couch right now and has made himself at home.

Tis it’s own breed, bred in California from imported collies.

I messaged the dog’s owner and said next time he wants a dogsitter we’re here (literally next door).

I understand there’s a connection with the Basque sheepherders of early California - I believe they were the first to develop the breed. Only reasonable I reckon to call a dog with absolutely NO connection to Australia an Australian Shepherd. We already had kelpies and heelers so not needed by us as working dogs.

Kind of like Outback steakhouse, which has zero to do with Australia. The founders never even been here.
