Lemmy is not that diverse
Understatement of the year. Just like most places on the internet, it leans mostly white, mostly male, mostly from US/Europe, mostly interested in computers/technology. Not exactly a diverse group at all. I’ve definitely had women already tell me this place isn’t exactly friendly to women, but I mean, that’s par for the course for the internet.

Tildes is mostly better for actual discussion right up until it’s not. The mod/admin gave me a temp ban after I said someone was “kinda stupid” after they said that an entire group of people was “incapable of creating anything positive or of value”. So, you can disparage entire groups on Tildes and it’s fine as long as the mods agree with you.

Well the rules are pretty clear in that you can call other people's ideas stupid, but not other people stupid. Personally I prefer spaces with hands-off moderation and focus on free speech, but those generally don't work in a general discussion platform without any implicit gatekeeping to keep idiots away, so I'm giving this style a chance and so far the results have been far better than most places on Reddit on Lemmy.

So it’s ok to say that a whole group of people is stupid or that they don’t have the capacity for creative efforts as long as you’re not saying that about someone you’re replying to? Is that your defense of this? This person didn’t say this about the group’s ideas, he said it about them as people.
If you’re going to moderate a platform, it should actually be moderated evenly.

Deimos is a dumb piece of shit. Evidence is that Tildes is somehow still invite only after like five fucking years.
It’s the pet project of the dumbfuck to made Reddits AutoMod.
He thinks he knows all about how to build a community because he’s read a lot of books and theory about it, but he never got good at praxis.
He’s just another shitlib.

Why do you think this is a bad thing? The best discussion board that I've been a member of by a wide margin (not mentioning names, it's all in Czech anyways) has been invite only for 20 years now. It's a tried and true way to limit eternal september as long as the community is active enough to not die out, which hasn't happened yet on Tildes.
