An annoying thing about political emails is they’re exempt from regular opt-in and spam laws so you pretty much just have to block them. Very interesting what they’re tracking here though

I got a Liberal party email in my inbox this morning. Clicked ‘modify preferences’ and noticed some of the things they’re tracking:

So annoying.
I reported one of those Trumpets of Patriots ads and was told they were exempt from complaints because they were political no matter how awful and targeting minorities
It really made me angry how they were allowed to get away with saying such awful things and lying.

That pisses me off too. My Do Not Call and Do Not Knock are intended for everybody I don’t know or didn’t contract in some way. Unless you’re trying to tell me the house is on fire, fuck off with your exemption.

This is actually super interesting. Consider screenshotting it all and send a tip to the Guardian. I’m sure the Libs aren’t the only ones using these predictive analytics stuff though.
This is why political patties want your email and phone number – so they can add you to a database and enrich it with data scraped from profiling platforms, data brokers, ethnicity predictors and other commercial data sources.
It’s spooky and feels wrong.

Yeah, that was first thought actually. Thought I’d consult the DT hivemind first though 😊
