There are games for that, don’t play a game that’s intended to be challenging on god mode, because that kills the entire point of the game.

The entire point of any game is to have fun while killing time.
sometimes that means just going ham. Sometimes it means jacking up the difficulty setting, or nerfing yourself, or speedrunning, or wandering around and doing nothing at all except look at the.graphics.
Maybe, for you the only point of a game is to fuck around on.whatever the max difficulty is, and I genuinely hope that you always have games that can give you that.
But, my gaming homie, there’s no single point to gaming.
And, can we be real for a minute? Most games, the skill involved is hand-eye coordination combined with reflexes. Which is fine for what it is, but it isn’t like the challenges involved are.something special.

I haven’t played all the Dark Souls games, but at least on DS1, the enemies are relatively few and far between, so “going ham” isn’t really a thing. The difficulty of DS is in where the enemies are, move sets, etc, not in how many there are or the specific weapons they have. Putting on cheats on something like DS is like having a tool to cut through a puzzle and get to the end w/o interacting with the puzzle in any meaningful sense.
That’s fine if that’s what you’re into, but I highly doubt you’ll get as much enjoyment from it vs playing a game with a lot more interesting set pieces, like the ones I mentioned, or really anything with a sandboxy feel.
You do you, of course, I’m just pointing out that if you’re looking for a casual slasher session or whatever, there are games designed for that, which would probably give you a lot more satisfaction.

If you beat a challenging game w/ cheats, did you really beat the game, or just roll credits? Where’s the satisfaction of bypassing the entire point behind the game?

I always say “there’s no such thing as cheating in a single player game” and it’s interesting seeing the varrying reactions. Some people take a minute and see the wisdom, others for “but…but…your using cheats that’s cheating!”

Yup, I’m with you.
Mind you, if it was an all the time thing, it seems kinda boring, but as an occasional thing, it’s fun. It extends replay value, and sometimes lets you see things in the game you don’t have time for normally.

My mind always goes to my long running Sims 4 save file that’s somehow lasted about 3 years despite the hundreds of mods (many of which are abandoned and a couple by a mod author who sadly passed away) and countless game updates in that time.
I’ve mostly played with mechanics as they exist in the game and mods but I’ve gone to cheats when it better helps the overall story I’m going for, or just I’m getting bored with a given branch of the family tree and want to move it along

I just don’t understand it for games where the primary draw is difficulty. Like, if you take the difficulty out of a game like Dark Souls…it’s not really all that good? The game has good atmosphere and an interesting story if you’re willing to engage it, but both of those are inherently tied to the difficulty of the game. The idea is that you’re struggling to succeed in the face of a dying world, and it all falls apart without the struggle.
Whereas if you’re playing something like the Sims 4 or like GTA where the point is just to screw around, totally understand why you wanna add cheats or mods. It’s your power fantasy, tune it how you like. But if you just want to turn a game like Dark Souls into a power fantasy, IMO there’s so many better games out there for you to play that will give you a better experience.

I suppose you might be right. I’ve never tried a souls-like because they don’t seem like my cup of tea but for a game where the point is specifically difficulty that would take most of the enjoyment out to remove all difficulty
