I donât particularly like sci-fi and Iâm not much of a fantasy reader either. Or crime. I read a lot of contemporary fiction, literary fiction, some vintage domestic fiction, kidsâ books, all sorts. Occasionally non-fiction.

Just for balance, is there anyone whoâs not into sci-fi? Whatâs your preferred genre? I enjoy history or the occasional fiction.

Any recommendations for contemporary fiction?

I just finished Diving, Falling by Kylie Mirmohamadi, which was good if you can deal with some unlikeable characters. Set in Melbourne which I always like. Interesting and well-written.
I liked Red River Road by Anna Downes recently too: a young woman trying to find her sister who went missing caravanning in WA. More of a thriller, definitely a page turner.

Thank you kindly :)
Iâll check them out. Iâm so out of the loop with modern/contemporary fiction.

I wouldnât say itâs something Iâm âin toâ specifically. I do read/watch sci-fi, but itâs not the dominant or only genre for me. I happily enjoy literature, crime, non-fiction, general fiction, biography. Sci-fi is so broad, itâs not just spaceships and laser beams. Just like any other genre, thereâs unreadable junk and then also brilliant works that leave you thinking long after youâve read them. I like the same things about it that I do in other genres, eg human struggles, mysteries to solve, comedy, redemption, action, discovery, drama etc. I mostly read the softer stuff where the sci-fi is not really the point of the story, just happens to allow a âwhat ifâ scenario that our current reality doesnât.

I go through fads. I will read nearly any genre.
Right now Iâm reading a lot of non fiction biographies by explorers, archeology books and art history and art technique books. Iâm listening to sci-fi and fantasy and science and history of philosophy books.

Relaxing reading and also talks about social issues. Under rated. đ

Romance is the biggest selling genre, by a lot. It keeps the book industry afloat. Even more so since ebooks and audio make it harder to judge what somebodyâs reading on the train.
Not underrated at all, just looked down on by many.

itâs a very sneaky genre, so many stories that are actually romances but because there are edgy characters or a bit of intrigue or action they arenât commonly regarded as such đ
I like them. đ

Youâll love op shops then and they will love you back.
