Atomic Heart was like that, too. Tons of difficulty options to customize your experience, but no matter what combat always felt like a punishment.

I highly recommend going in blind. Innocence is first, followed by Requiem. Innocence has been free on epic a few times so you might already own it.

Have you played A Plague Tale? It’s much shorter but also pretty emotional.

Is pretty great! It hits the right balance between survival and crafting for me.

Black myth wukong would be so great with some difficulty options. I’m sure the rest of it story is great, but if I get stuck for a week on a boss I’m going to stop caring about that story.

And even if you do start the new job, most jobs have a probationary period around ninety days where they can just let you go for no reason at all.
- Comment on Game design question : how to make a "trapped" player character? 1 month ago:
This concept could work great with “combat” in the style of A Plague Tale. If you’re not familiar, the main character is a child. She has a few tools available to manipulate enemies and environmental hazards.

Is there another game you’re waiting for? Or were you hoping for more specifics on Silksong?
- Comment on Avowed is the most fun I’ve have had since Skyrim! 3 months ago:
I think what I read was actually about oblivion rather than Skyrim, but I’m not sure if that changes your questions or not. I agree that the Skyrim character did feel like a genetic dragonborn. The guild quests especially made it feel that way. (I’m the head wizard, but also chief fighter dude and captain of the thieves guild… What?)
I guess for the role play aspect I prefer games to more narrowly define the main character and tell the story from there rather than leave it up to me to decide who the character becomes. A Plague Tale is a great example of this type of story telling, but of course it isn’t at all comparable to an open world game.

I’ve heard it’s more action and less role playing than Skyrim, which sounds perfect for me. Does that match your experience?
- Comment on Any Roguelike/Roguelite suggestions? 5 months ago:
Hades 2 is in early access, but it’s already very polished. They’re releasing more areas with each patch, but it honestly already feels like a complete game.
- Comment on Is there any way to search through all the games on Steam for titles that don't use the word "dystopian" anywhere in the description? 5 months ago:
I don’t like souls like games. I saw black myth wukong was specifically said to not be a souls like game, but guess what? It’s enough of the same combat elements that I still don’t like it. So now I avoid games that are souls like, but also games that people claim they’re not souls like.

unique breathing mechanic, where you have to press a button to inhale and release the button to exhale
I get that a satirical game about the pandemic probably just isn’t my cup of tea, but this breathing mechanic sounds like such unnecessary tedium.

My partner has a similarly vivid visual thinking and a “crowded” internal monologue. They also have a hard time keeping focus.

I think my lack of internal monologue and inability to visualize is why I’ve never been able to get into reading. I’m a little jealous when I hear people describe books as “like watching a movie in your mind”.

Is it the nearly flat roof that makes you say that? It looks like maybe 4 inch rise across eight feet, so a 1:24 pitch. “Roof felt” was the only roof covering I saw. Oh and they lined up all the siding seams which probably isn’t great.
