Some games/software expected/relied on a certain CPU speed to run correctly. If your computer was faster than that, the software would run too fast. The turbo button let you toggle between the maximum speed your computer could go, and the speed that the software needed/expected in order to run normally.
Basically, there was an actual reason for the turbo button, it wasn’t just marketing on computers.

Lockdowns help highlight a lot of “just because it’s what you do, not because it’s actually good” things for people.
Theatres are generally awful. They are really only good if you want to do an event as a group, and not one has a space big enough to host. The food costs too much, people make gross mouth noises when eating the expensive food, the seats aren’t comfortable, things aren’t clean, people talk, people pull out their bright phones, the sound levels are all over the place, you sometimes have a bad viewing angle, you pay a lot of money but still shown 20 minutes of ads at the start, you need to worry about things like bed bugs, you need to plan a specific time to go, people bring their kids to non-kid movies, going to the bathroom is awkward, colour balancing is all over the place, drunk/high people react in distractingly bad ways, and probably many more reasons.

that a large majority of Christians aren’t actually Christian
Yes they are, Christian doesn’t mean “good person.” It mostly means someone who believes that a sinless god-man died, and now they get to go to heaven if they want to.
With the old testiment being a different religion’s text, and the new testament being mostly made out of letters that people supposedly wrote to each other, you can make the Bible say basically anything you want it to. It’s not a consistent or coherent storyline.

The movie from 1979, from 1981, from 1985? Maybe the movie from 2015, or the movie from this year?

I had to stop Picard’s first episode because I burst out laughing when the superhero jump up the stairs happened.
I finished 2 seasons of Discover before I stopped watching.I don’t think I’ll go back and try to finish either series, but I could stand DISC way longer.

Chick tracts are a very conservative cartoon series.
University is the first time a lot of people are away from the influence of their family, while also being exposed to other ideas. A lot of people leave the ideas that their parents try to instill in them once they run into people raised with different ideas than them. It kinda clicks that what we are taught as children in our small communities may not actually be correct.
I remember as a child, churches praying for kids going to university, and their parents being upset after the church services that their kids have “fallen away” from the faith. After the services is key point because women aren’t allowed to speak during the services, so a mother being upset that her daughter wasn’t a fan of that is bonkers.

Damn it, I knew I should’ve invested years of my life into cookie lore for a brand not sold in my country!
Probably more useful than 40k lore, but less useful than LotR lore. - Comment on a 320 year old elf marries an 80 year old human: Is the elf robbing the cradle, or the grave? 5 weeks ago:
You need to be specific about which type of elves this is.
If we’re talking LotR, elves are immortal.
If we’re talking 40k, Eldrad is 10,000+ years old.
If we’re talking WoW, it’s a couple thousand years.
If we’re talking D&D, elves live like 750 years.
If we’re talking Shadowrun, Elves lit’s all over the place. - Comment on My friend's boyfriend's therapist said that he is an abuser who is trying to look like the victim. What does this mean? 1 month ago:

The Weekly Pellet is a website for people in the plastics industry.
Here’s a site focused on people in the food industry:
www.chefsresource.com/is-nylon-food-safe/Nylon is considered food safe while it is in good condition, but not if it has been damaged or used at temperatures higher than what it is rated for. If you cook at max on your stove top, you can exceed the safe temperature of Nylon very easily.

Do you actually think that they think that basically everyone is that dumb?
Do you really think that there is a magical line dividing people who have a difference of a fraction of a percentage of mental capacity?

I don’t see any of the characters from Prodigy, which is more of a slight.
Also, ToS Kirk is pretty unmemerable. He’s basically a worse version of Archer+Riker.
When I think of ToS, he’s not even in the top 5. He doesn’t really have any unique skills as a character, and the actor who played him is competent but not great,

- Comment on Honda's commercials saying they are going to be carbon neutral by 2050. What? 6 months ago:
There will for sure be some “Creativity” with their numbers.
“Carbon Neutral” will only apply to the manufacturing of the product, not the life of the product.
It will probably also only apply to the assembly that is done in-house. It might not apply to things like the tires. It will also probably be done through some bulllshit “carbon credits”, which are about as honest and reliable as those “no, our $2 is definitely didn’t use any child labour, and the farmers definitely aren’t paid slave-wages.” badges you find on foods.
- Comment on I get that AMP sites are supposed to load faster. But why do they have to be so ugly? 7 months ago:
Different people will have different answers, but one of the most common thing I have heard is that it’s basically another way that a big tech company was trying to control the internet.
Google started to basically require websites use AMP in order to appear in search results. This is a conflict because AMP doesn’t support all advertisements, but it does support all ads by Google. This matters on mobile because people are less-likely to have adblock. So they weren’t telling websites “if you don’t use our ads, you won’t show up in search results”, but they were implying “if you would like to continue to make a living you will use our ads and services.”
