No it isn’t.
Stay tuned for the next episode of internet argument.
- Comment on How do I stop laughing at stupid shit all the time 1 week ago:
I think it’s about staying focused on what you’re doing. Pushing out irrelevant thoughts and focusing on what’s going on is a skill you can work on. In my mind, when something like that is making me giggle, the only thing that helps is not thinking about it. I’m bad at dealing with this too though.

Hey, that could be how they buckled, but that’s all water under the bridge now.
- Comment on Anon is about to be found out 3 weeks ago:
Putting something full of dangerous bacteria in the water supply isn’t just a prank. If someone put some food safe additive in there to make the water taste or smell bad it’d be less of an issue. (Still a jerk move, debatably.)
- Comment on Uncanny sandwich 4 weeks ago:
I don’t really know about this stuff, but maybe this is the work of some kind of convolutional neural network. Computerphile on YouTube had a couple of videos about them with Mike Pound. That or this was handmade by someone, but I doubt it.
- Comment on Ordering coffee in the USA triggers me 1 month ago:
I feel like it makes sense. If you order coffee you pay for the amount of coffee not the overall volume of the coffee and ice. This is actually a good thing because you won’t be wondering if they watered down your drink more than usual due to an error by the barista.
- Comment on Ordering coffee in the USA triggers me 1 month ago:
I feel like this word is just used to mean that something caused a certain emotion. Maybe it was co-opted from the world of mental health. Either way, saying it triggered me is less descriptive than saying that it annoyed or infuriated me, but it’s popular now.
- Comment on I don't think they understand. We're interviewing them too. 1 month ago:
They’re important questions but lots of these are pay and benefit related. Usually I discuss that after getting an offer, and I think that’s what companies expect too.

Moving a very stinky trashcan back to a more public area after doing something like this may not be a great idea. Leaving it in the bathroom also is weird though. I don’t think any solution is ideal in that situation.
- Comment on Microsoft is combining “the best of Xbox and Windows together” for handhelds 1 month ago:
This holds true for other companies using windows on handhelds, but Microsoft has the windows source code. I think this means that there is potential for Microsoft to make a version of windows that really works efficiently, but they’d have to had learned their lesson from windows phones.

I welcome the panic.
- Comment on Are We Ready For Driverless Buses? 2 months ago:
For how janky driverless cars can be, I am not optimistic that we’re close. I wouldn’t want a huge bus full of people getting confused on the road. If driverless cars didn’t require so much human intervention to function normally, I would have a different feeling.

IMO the built in documentation is kind of hard to digest, but it gets easier with practice and I’m glad that it’s there. Thinking about it, some good search engine for manpages that doesn’t require messing with VIM or emacs would be good. That probably exists somewhere.

Using Linux isn’t that difficult. You have to remember a few commands, their syntax, and how to look things up on the web or read a book. Speaking a language is probably harder than using Linux for basic stuff.

You’re right. What he did is murder and it’s the job of the justice system to find him and convict him. I wouldn’t feel bad if he wasn’t caught, but it’s still probably the right thing to do.
I don’t seriously think that normalizing the murder of CEOs is going to fix things anyways, and it’s not a democratic way of dealing with the problem.

- Comment on How am I supposed to obtain income? 2 months ago:
There is still a chance, but it’s just much more of a crapshoot. I have been offered jobs where I didn’t know anyone, but those have been rare compared to other offers. Jobs where I knew someone at least tended to lead to serious interviews.
- Comment on If Open Source is so great... 3 months ago:
Interesting. I didn’t know that about deleting comments. The web client on my instance has a delete button, but is there some kind of issue with that change not necessarily propagating to other instances?
It doesn’t bother me much personally since you never really can be sure that you deleted something from the internet. Even if reddit deletes a comment, you can possibly find it on an archive somewhere. Anything you toss onto the web should be something you’re comfortable with the world knowing.

The issue is that some day someone may have to work on your home, even if it’s just getting demolished decades or more from now. I don’t know how difficult it is to work with if you know that it’s there in advance.

In Benjamin Franklin’s experiments, he came up with the convention that we use today to define a “positive” charge. As it turns out, electrons, discovered much later, are negatively charged according to the convention. Lots of chemical and physical reactions involve electrons as charge carriers, so lots of physical phenomena have this weird opposite thing going on. E.g. electric current or “conventional current” flows in the opposite direction of electron current. Chemical reactions are also weird. Reduction reactions involve a reduction in electric charge, but gaining an electron. The model works just fine, but it can be tricky and/or annoying at times.

But the steam network is still around. When steam actually shuts down and no longer has the infrastructure to provide downloads for games, I have no idea what their plan is. They hypothetically could provide a way to remove the DRM, but I doubt that it’s something the publishers of games would allow.
