On April 2? I’m suspicious.
- Comment on GOG seems to be considering paid membership option 2 days ago:
Yeah I’m not at all against the idea of throwing a few bucks at them per month for something, but I just don’t see anything that fits in the context of why I use GOG in the first place. Voting rights doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Ideas like earlier versions of games, tools that help with backup, etc should be offered for free or sold for a one-time cost IMO.
- Comment on Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a Masterpiece, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an Indulgence 3 days ago:
I’m reading online that the game doesn’t even maintain 30 FPS on the switch in docked mode. That’s kind of crazy for a console game released in 2023. I get that it’s a cheaper console, but at some point, they need to bite the bullet and just manufacture something with better hardware. No wonder people are trying their hardest to emulate the switch.

I don’t doubt Signal per se, but I am surprised that government officials would use it to discuss military plans. I would have thought the government would use something developed by the military just to be sure that it’s safe.
Sure, they can vet the source code, but it seems more straightforward for the government to develop their own app than create a team to vet the security if something that they didn’t write. Signal is also relatively new, and they had to have a way to discuss these things beforehand.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is great fun if they don’t have it already.
- Comment on 6 years and 1 prolonged delay later, Xbox is still calling "incredible" Hollow Knight: Silksong one of its "upcoming games" 2 weeks ago:
The lack of communication from Team Cherry is the only issue, and it’s the primary thing that makes me skeptical about the game ever releasing. If they were working on the game for this long, they’d at least have enough material to give us some kind of an update. It could be as small as a blog post.
Not to imply that they owe us that or anything. They possibly are just completely disinterested in marketing. It’s a little hard to believe given the amazing trailer that they put together years ago, but it’s still possible.
- Comment on Deep Rock Galactic roguelike dev says innovation for innovation's sake is too expensive to survive: "We're a studio of 50 people with bills to pay" 2 weeks ago:
To be fair, a game giving you bad vibes is a valid reason not to play it. It’s not a piece of software developed with a practical task in mind.
- Comment on PC gamers spend 92% of their time on older games, oh and there are apparently 908 million of us now 2 weeks ago:
I don’t know if I agree about new games. This is a bit of a problem with some AAA games though. The indie game scene is still thriving as far as I can tell, in some genres more than others. (E.g now is a great time to be into FPS games.)
A good old game can occupy you for many hours though, and it’s hard to make good games period. I’m not surprised that a few older games dominate the market.

- Comment on How do I stop laughing at stupid shit all the time 1 month ago:
I think it’s about staying focused on what you’re doing. Pushing out irrelevant thoughts and focusing on what’s going on is a skill you can work on. In my mind, when something like that is making me giggle, the only thing that helps is not thinking about it. I’m bad at dealing with this too though.

Putting something full of dangerous bacteria in the water supply isn’t just a prank. If someone put some food safe additive in there to make the water taste or smell bad it’d be less of an issue. (Still a jerk move, debatably.)
- Comment on Uncanny sandwich 1 month ago:
I don’t really know about this stuff, but maybe this is the work of some kind of convolutional neural network. Computerphile on YouTube had a couple of videos about them with Mike Pound. That or this was handmade by someone, but I doubt it.
- Comment on Ordering coffee in the USA triggers me 2 months ago:
I feel like it makes sense. If you order coffee you pay for the amount of coffee not the overall volume of the coffee and ice. This is actually a good thing because you won’t be wondering if they watered down your drink more than usual due to an error by the barista.
- Comment on Ordering coffee in the USA triggers me 2 months ago:
I feel like this word is just used to mean that something caused a certain emotion. Maybe it was co-opted from the world of mental health. Either way, saying it triggered me is less descriptive than saying that it annoyed or infuriated me, but it’s popular now.
- Comment on I don't think they understand. We're interviewing them too. 2 months ago:
They’re important questions but lots of these are pay and benefit related. Usually I discuss that after getting an offer, and I think that’s what companies expect too.
- Comment on [deleted] 2 months ago:
Moving a very stinky trashcan back to a more public area after doing something like this may not be a great idea. Leaving it in the bathroom also is weird though. I don’t think any solution is ideal in that situation.
- Comment on Microsoft is combining “the best of Xbox and Windows together” for handhelds 2 months ago:
This holds true for other companies using windows on handhelds, but Microsoft has the windows source code. I think this means that there is potential for Microsoft to make a version of windows that really works efficiently, but they’d have to had learned their lesson from windows phones.

- Comment on Are We Ready For Driverless Buses? 3 months ago:
For how janky driverless cars can be, I am not optimistic that we’re close. I wouldn’t want a huge bus full of people getting confused on the road. If driverless cars didn’t require so much human intervention to function normally, I would have a different feeling.

IMO the built in documentation is kind of hard to digest, but it gets easier with practice and I’m glad that it’s there. Thinking about it, some good search engine for manpages that doesn’t require messing with VIM or emacs would be good. That probably exists somewhere.
- Comment on How was trying to get a job different THEN vs NOW 3 months ago:
Using Linux isn’t that difficult. You have to remember a few commands, their syntax, and how to look things up on the web or read a book. Speaking a language is probably harder than using Linux for basic stuff.

- Comment on It's true 3 months ago:
You’re right. What he did is murder and it’s the job of the justice system to find him and convict him. I wouldn’t feel bad if he wasn’t caught, but it’s still probably the right thing to do.
I don’t seriously think that normalizing the murder of CEOs is going to fix things anyways, and it’s not a democratic way of dealing with the problem.

- Comment on How am I supposed to obtain income? 3 months ago:
There is still a chance, but it’s just much more of a crapshoot. I have been offered jobs where I didn’t know anyone, but those have been rare compared to other offers. Jobs where I knew someone at least tended to lead to serious interviews.
