- Comment on Poll: 61% of young adults confess they are not saving for retirement 2 weeks ago:
The only retirement plan for me is to move somewhere where it doesn’t get cold in the winter and be homeless. So far that’s what I can afford.

I had a client as of a couple of years ago with a custom fronted software build on top of an access mdb database running on windows 98 continuously since 2000. They had been backing it up onto a 18 year old 1GB flash drive every night for years. Their interest was exactly zero in upgrading to anything newer.
- Comment on Is Killers of the Flower Moon not coming to Blu-ray after all? 4 weeks ago:
Well, if they don’t want to bother, send the footage to me. I have a Blu Ray burner and will gladly accept $30 each for a burned copy.
Seriously though, it’s already been mastered for Apple TV. Make a run of Blu-rays. It’s free real estate.
- Comment on Why I Lost Faith in Kagi 5 weeks ago:
That was my main take-away. You’re the CEO of the company. If someone writes a mean blog post about your business so what? Fix the issues with the product if they are legitimate things that need fixing. Otherwise leave people alone. If something constitutes libel then sue. Otherwise it’s just someones opinion which they are entitled to.
No I have a bad opinion about him as well (please don’t reach out to me either).
- Comment on “Untitled Star Trek Origin Story” film officially added to Paramount Pictures' 2025-2026 lineup. 5 weeks ago:
I think they mean Seth Grahme-Smith, author of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
So I’m down. Please not too many pew pew space battles. You can include Abe Lincoln if appropriate. That is precedented and canonical for Star Trek.

Only 1000 times? It’s interesting that there’s such a bias there but it’s a computer. Ask it 100,000 times and make sure it’s not a fluke.

Oh no! There’s a 4k version of the Star Trek movies?
Maybe I’ll just get a new pair of glasses instead, it might end up cheaper in the long run.
- Comment on 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G mobile data made some sens as it represents generational leaps in the technology itself but then Xfinity wants to advertise "10g" internet... 2 months ago:
I was genuinely convinced they offered 10gig service in some markets. Doesn’t surprise me that its all marketing nonsense.
Just a tip for anyone who wants to know, if you have Comcast business internet they’ll tell you you have to use their modem but, you can swap it out with a 3rd patty modem and use the live chat service to get it activated. Then you can send back their modem for free at a ups store. Every salesperson will tell you its not possible but it absolutely is.

- Comment on Home theater fans are being starved of the new 4K Blu-ray releases they want and it's not okay 2 months ago:
Well if the quality doesn’t matter maybe we could at least get a VHS release. Or maybe laserdisc.
But seriously I do understand that angle. And I assume that there’s a certain threshold of sales that make it worth doing especially when a lot of stores are reducing or eliminating physical media sections (except records of course).
Speaking of records I think that that is where you could pivot the bluray industry. Make a bigger package with specially tinted discs and lots of behind the scenes photos or interviews on a fold out cover. Maybe even make people get up in the middle of the movie to flip the disc over? (Ok maybe not that last one.)
- Comment on Home theater fans are being starved of the new 4K Blu-ray releases they want and it's not okay 2 months ago:
This is interesting and a lot of commentary says that the reason smaller films aren’t released physically is that there is too much work involved to do so at is mastering the movie for bluray would be impossible for a group of talented editors, color correctionists and sound engineers.
Personally, if anyone has any insight into the bluray mastering process I would love to learn more about it.
I mean if an outfit like Vinegar Syndrome can do multiple 4k restorations of crappy B movies every year, what’s stopping other production companies?

Connected a Samsung smart TV to my network when we first got it. The thing damn-near crashed my pi-hole asking for so many ad/tracking domains. Factory reset it later that same day. I think my % of requests blocked went from 15% to 68% in just the 3 hours or so the Smart TV was connected.

Analogue is doing the lord’s work. Software is easy to copy infinite times but hardware isn’t prevalent or going to last forever.

- Comment on Thoughts on fixing production mistakes in remasters? 5 months ago:
That’s a tricky question. In some way, an unintentional error being corrected later makes sense. Especially since something like a sound effect doesn’t change the plot. It’s sort of akin to using digital effects to remove visible wires from model-based space shots.
But where does it end? I don’t know if I have a good answer.
Sometimes I like to make up headcanon to justify mistakes for fun. For instance, maybe the paging system on the Defiant blew out on a mission and O’Brien had to wire in a Cardassian chime temporarily while he waited for a new part to get ordered.
- Comment on Just some fun size comparisons 6 months ago:
It’s even funnier when you hear the Sisko’s initial description of the defiant.
It’s a warship, nothing more, nothing less.
And also
No families, no science labs, no luxuries of any kind…
Meanwhile it’s almost as big as the OG Enterprise which did in fact have a regulation size bowling alley inside.
So all that space, basically just for engines and guns on the Defiant.
- Comment on Gargoyles Live-Action Reboot Officially in Works at Disney+ 6 months ago:
Mmmmm Content®. I sure do love Brand™. My favorite thing about Property© is all the Merchandise™ I can buy related to it.
Seriously, I loved Gargoyles as a kid. I loved the animation style and I loved the darker subject matter that I as a kid got to experience. As an adult, I have no use for another CGI filled paint-by-numbers show with milquetoast stories and hours of filler. And I sure as heck have no desire to give Disney any more money to support it.
Sorry for the grumpy pessimism.

Is there anything she can’t do?
- Comment on Did anybody watch TOS for the first time AFTER Strange New Worlds? 6 months ago:
The pacing is pretty bad on a lot of episodes. Especially how long they like to just hold on a shot of the crew waiting for something to happen. Sometimes seems like hours and hours of this.

- Comment on Did anybody watch TOS for the first time AFTER Strange New Worlds? 7 months ago:
I watched TNG first and going back to the 60s was… something. Luckily I am a huge fan of Twilight Zone and season 1 of TOS is like Twilight Zone in space.
Spock vs Bones is also a great dynamic in any TV show. There’s some garbage episodes though. But that’s the case for the first few seasons of all the Star Trek.
Might be best to find a “Greatest Hits” list and jump around to see if you like it first. The best episodes (Balance of Terror, the Doomsday Machine) of TOS are as good as the best in any series in my opinion.

Not to say anything against the strikers but if so could replace any writers it would be the ones from Bill Maher’s show. All it would have to do is go to Boomer Facebook, find the memes with the crispiest jpegs and copy them outright.
