You might check out recipes for Indian lemon pickle. It’s a way of salt fermenting them that results in a spicy delicious condiment that can last for ages.
- Comment on Why do we have an internal monologue? 10 months ago:
Can you summon a song in your head? A melody?
It’s that… But it’s your voice. And you employ it to think. It’s how I argue with myself and reason my way through a thing. I’m not sure how I’d get along without it, except every once in a while I get stuck on a problem, so I do something different. Often, the right solution to the thing I wanted to do will pop into my head. Then I need to work backwards how I got there. Both are useful, I prefer the information up front though.
- Comment on Why do we have an internal monologue? 10 months ago:
I use it for reasoning. It’s a way to talk to myself without having to do so out loud, which I do a lot.
There is a segment of the population who, apparently, don’t have one. Even deaf people apparently have an inner monologue of hand signs visualized. But this segment just lacks one entirely. I don’t understand how they think, how they come to a conclusion. Things just pop into my mind, when I take my mind away from other matters and let my subconscious bake on an item… is this the way they think about everything? I don’t know.

🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ oh boy here I go again
I’ve cut off all but Disney+ and that’s only because my nieces and nephews use it. Everything else just gets put into my 80TB raid now. Could probably do to start purging some of it, but also I wanna keep the writes to a minimum to extend drive life and I’m not anywhere near full.

Weather/room temp wise we probably never will. I’d rather think of my environment in terms of 0 to 100 than in terms of -18 to 38. For science and engineering, Celsius is ideal, and I can convert between the two because I’m not an idiot who can’t do basic math.

50 is great for just a light jacket and jeans. You’ll never get too hot, you won’t get too cold. So, yeah, as long as you’ve got clothes on it’s pretty perfect.
If I want to wear less clothes then 70 is a good bit better, but 50 is damn comfortable.

Self reflection is good. Learning from your mistakes is good. Regret is useless. It’s just agonizing over something unchangeable. It’s important not to confuse them, lest you end up dwelling on the past and missing the lessons.

Also it’s only good for grilled cheese, bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, or melting onto leftover spaghetti. I will die on this hill.
But it’s the best option for all of these and thus it will always be in my fridge. Except the spaghetti… That’s weird but I’m curious.
And before y’all get all shitty, I’m not talking about your whatever melts. That’s not a grilled cheese. A grilled cheese has exactly 3 ingredients: bread, butter, cheese. That’s it. And that cheese is best when it’s Kraft singles. Fight me.

I feel like people are doing a disservice by using the phrase “toxic masculinity”
You can’t use that phrase without implying masculinity in general is a bad thing. Trying to draw a distinction between “masculinity” and “toxic masculinity” is using the same logic as the people that say “but you’re not one of the bad ones.” when they’re talking to someone of [insert race, gender, religion, etc].
They’re toxic people that cause these problems. There’s nothing wrong with masculinity.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Our devices are old hat now. They’re part of our life.
They used to be like magic. Now we are desperate for new magic.

Am US citizen, only drive manual transmissions. Anyone here who likes cars can drive a manual transmission, anyone who doesn’t like cars doesn’t give a shit about a manual transmission and just wants to get where they’re going.
We invented cars, we’re allowed to decide how they evolve.

People aren’t buying automatic weapons now. But 50 years ago they absolutely were available. They were banned in 1986.
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 1 year ago:
Most gun designs are 70 years old or so and they were as widely available then as they are now.
Something besides the technology has definitely changed.

- Comment on What are some alternative to soulless videogame franchises? 1 year ago:
I’ve got a decently beefy machine but it’s not top of the line or anything (Radeon RX 6950 XT, Core i7, 16GB memory) and with a few tweaks it runs pretty well. Definitely looking forward to the performance updates, though, because it’s a truly beautiful game.
- Comment on What are some alternative to soulless videogame franchises? 1 year ago:
Don’t forget Cities Skylines and the recently released sequel. They’re both a lot of fun but for the sequel they really listened to the community. It’s a bit of a performance hog. There are performance patches coming but in the interim there area lot of settings one can change to make it run better on lower end hardware.

I haven’t bought one in like 15 years but modern universal remotes are pretty cool. The Logitech Harmony remotes do all kinds of cool shit, though they require a computer to program and they are not cheap. Then there’s always the old dumb universal remotes that get the job done and cost like $10.
- Comment on Best of both worlds 1 year ago:
I’ll give you that one. I don’t know about finding unsecured networks, that would be enough to make me return the TV, but the two Samsung TVs I have take about 30 seconds for their input menus to go away. The menu from my Shield or whatever little device I have on my office TV are loaded, but the “Select your input” kinda menu fills 20% of the screen for about 30 seconds and it’s annoying.
That said… I’m never in that much of a hurry so it doesn’t really bother me (though it is a minor annoyance). I don’t blame you if it bothers you, though.
- Comment on Best of both worlds 1 year ago:
It’s not. I just don’t connect the wi-fi. TVs usually enter a default state of “just go to the last selected input” which works fine for me.
- Comment on Best of both worlds 1 year ago:
Just buy a TV and don’t connect the wi-fi. It’s only 90% solved, but as long as it has HDMI inputs and a digital audio out it gets the job done.
