Gammas might be able to penetrate a little bit of concrete, since concrete has lower electron density than lead
- Comment on Jimmy Neutron confirmed Chad? 2 weeks ago:
Gamma rays are stopped by things with a lot of electrons, so a sufficiently thick block of lead will stop it
- Comment on Jimmy Neutron confirmed Chad? 2 weeks ago:
If you’re talking about the neutron it’s because concrete has a lot of hydrogen. Alpha particles, beta particles, and light (gamma rays in this picture) interact with electrons, with the probability of being stopped increasing with electron density. Lead has a lot of electrons (its lower on the periodic table, called a “high z” element).
Neutrons, however, don’t care about electrons and instead interact with the nucleus, with the probability of being stopped depending on the spin state of the nucleus and the neutron. This doesn’t follow a specific pattern on the periodic table, but hydrogen has a big chance of interacting with the neutron while lead doesn’t. Cadmium, boron, and I think lithium 7 also would stop neutrons easily (there are more of course but those are what I remember offhand).

Also a ton of games have day 1 patches that you’d need to download anyway from their servers. I don’t recall seeing standalone installers for patches like we used to have. So buying a physical copy just makes you feel good rather than actually avoiding the problem with digital copies

Sorry, I don’t actually know any, but I guessed the kitchen jokes about pansexual are related to the “pan” part. I then though it feasible there were shopping jokes about bisexuals because of the “bi” (homophone for buy) part.

Would a pansexual be a bisexual who’s had enough shopping jokes?

There were rumors that Larian was delaying their internal schedule for the next Divinity game because they decided to spend more time optimizing due to the RAM situation. If that is true then that is good.

How hard was it for your users to connect? Were the configuration troubles just on your end? I am going to try to setup a home server, but some of my friends might not be willing to join if it is too much work
- Comment on What are super-computers used for ? 7 months ago:
I’m a PhD student and several of my classmates use computing clusters in their work. These types of computers typically have a lot of CPUs, GPUs, or both. The types of simulations they do are essentially putting a bunch of atoms or molecules in a box and seeing what happens in order to get information which is impossible to obtain experimentally. However, there are plenty of other uses.
The clusters we have would have dozens of these CPUs or GPUs and users would submit jobs to it which would run simultaneously. AMD CPUs have better performance than Intel and Nvidia GPUs have Cuda, which is incorporated into a lot of the software people use for these.

Being able to take multiple of the same class is also nice. One thing that was annoying in vermintide is if you’re playing with friends and two or more people want to play the same character (Bardin and Saltzpyre were common for us).
- Comment on If snap benefits are paid for where are the funds going? 10 months ago:
I think they’re asking about the government’s refusal to use the money for SNAP they were given in case of a shutdown. I believe it would just be sitting in a bank account somewhere.
- Comment on Paradox announced the updated, expanded, and remastered Surviving Mars: Relaunched 1 year ago:
Given the original surviving mars’ history, I’m guessing they’ll fuck everything up with an update 6 months from now and not give the opportunity to roll back. Then a few months later they’ll release a patch to fix only some of it

It seems this may be to cover up the bad news that Take Two/2K have changed their ToS to essentially make all their games spyware.
