My Vanguard roth IRA is up 11% since 2020, and is up 30% just this last year. If you are investing into individual stocks yourself I would probably reconsider that strategy. Buying individual stocks is closer to gambling than investing.

Birds actually have scientific common names and it’s completely acceptable to refer to them with those names. They even have standardized bird abbreviations using those names, like Red-tailed Hawk is RTHA. They of course use the latin names too, and those have their own abbreviations (Buteo jamaicensis is BUTJAM) but the common names are handier.

Annoy naturalists with these other animal names too: Jellyfish, crawfish, starfish, Killer Whale, Canadian Geese, and American Buffalo.

It’s wild. Someone asked my almost 4 year old where he got a monster truck from. We got it 8 months ago but he remembered exactly where. He remembered that someone broke his plane at daycare over a year ago randomly. But I ask him what he did at school and he says “nothing.”

I did Zoology, half my classes had us either identifying dead animals (whole / parts) or dissecting them. One of my tests was identifying the sex, age, and species of waterfowl just by their severed wings. I also did a summer plant class where all we did was walk trails and identify plants.

I had a pre interview from someone from HR once and it was excruciating. They didn’t know wtf I was talking about and I had to repeat myself many times over for very well known tools in my field. Now that I am the one looking over resumes I would never want HR to screen anyone, because they can’t possibly know what makes a good candidate for every single position or even how to read qualifications correctly.

My buddy ordered a 3090 during the covid craze from best buy. He gets an email. Delivery has been cancelled. Item refunded. Gets another email right after. Package delivered. He looks, there’s his free 3090. Lucky SOB.

Speaking of Harris’s Hawks, what a stupid name. So awkward to say. I really want them to change them to Baywing Hawks, so much cooler and at least slightly descriptive.

Animal emotions is a hugely debated and studied topic, at least it was 10 years ago. It was a grave sin to anthropomorphize animals that have not been properly studied when I was in school. That comment is probably a tongue in cheek comment on that

It was in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, or in the series at least. His scenario was two warring planets sending out armadas to fight each other, but while they were on their way faster ships were created and sent so when they got there the battle was already over.

You can do a similar thing if you see a bird with a wing tag. You get a little certificate but no little bird pin thing sadly.

That study looks at lifespan after reaching 5, and 50 might still be a little generous with the care that humans could provide each other 50,000 years ago. 50 is about the lifespan of a king 3,000 years ago, I can’t imagine gen pop faired better.

One report has a cop surprising him too, and he pointed the gun at the cop. So it was turn around for cop > turn back around > aim > fire. I don’t think I’ve seen the time between the cop and firing but I think it was quick. Dude was probably shaking like crazy.
