Smells like lust. And an even sadder kind of desperation.
Did they plan on being open to kids?

I’m curious, do you think of sex more as “like ice cream but better” or “like hugging but better”?

Some of the listed things mean that Catholics might put more effort into finding someone, compared to secular dating. Also, people seem to see insanity in how Catholic dating connects to marriage, but I don’t know exactly how that’s perceived. I might not be familiar enough with other dating cultures to know what is relevant.

I defined the first in another comment.
Incel-style pessimistic desperation: persistently sad because no girlfriend; horny; wants an easy short path to having girlfriend; making the other person happier is probably not part of why they start to want romance

I didn’t limit to only what’s specific to Catholics. Also, I’ve heard that Mormons think it’s a big deal to still not be married at a certain age because it affect which level of Heaven you enter.

- marriage is awesome enough to warrant active effort in dating if one is called to marriage, but not at all costs
- standards can be good, even if it means staying single
- no shame or moral inferiority in being single, regardless of age
- marriage almost always should be with another catholic
- no premarital sex or cohabitation
- dating is for finding future spouse, but there’s not too much rush in determining whether or not someone is that future spouse
- relatively wide variety in how long a couple dates before deciding to marry
- normal to date in high school, but some people are against it, and some actively encourage it

Is there a risk in calling the speaker of an elevator that I’m currently inside of?

The closest thing we have to democracy is our ability to begin democracy by fighting against first-past-the-post voting systems

I’m not being sarcastic. I’m so used to toxic Lemmy users that I didn’t realize how surprising it is that typical feedback is much worse than yours. While I mostly disagree with your comment, it is unique because I don’t need more clarification of it.

Good job, this is the most specific feedback for that post so far

They did not say it respectfully. If this happened to someone else, then I would feel an obligation to take action. That comment is very opposite to my vision for the community.

Also I suspect that some people assume that I feel hurt from being single. Some possible factors:
- For people who are less able to put a lot of energy into a non-urgent task, I think perceived urgency would be more likely to be the first explanation that comes to mind when reading about my experiences, because avoiding projection is complicated for all of us.
- It’s hard for me to precisely describe mindsets that I have had, so I have used vague descriptions, and that might leave room for various interpretations. A severe example is when I used the phrase “almost like a goal”.
