That’s the “sunk cost fallacy”
- Comment on THE HECK? Documents show FEMA official ordered workers to ignore houses with Trump signs 1 week ago:
Police department spokesman Bob Young said it has stored 552 guns that were confiscated after Katrina, through Dec. 31, 2005. Police have said they only took guns that were stolen or found in abandoned homes.
That was the local police.

I conflated the two. You’re right. But there were unedited satellite broadcasts with weird shit. I’ll see if I can dig up something.
- Comment on Is There A Source For Unbiased Election Results As They Happen? 1 week ago:
You should have seen how bad that kind of stuff was when satellite TV was new. Channels would broadcast straight out into the airwaves and not bother to cut the feed. There’s some old fox news clips for example of the guy losing his shit when he kept flubbing his lines. Can’t remember his name.

Consider the UK’s BBC and the guardian. They do it well and the perspective is just a little outside the American bubble. Used them and their live threads the past two elections.

Always wondered what it would have been like had we domesticated these things
These limbs were adapted for efficient long-distance pacing, rather than the explosive acceleration and high speed pursuits
Terrifying

Throw in some creaking and cracking noises and you’ve got sheer horror.

The models that do that now are very capable but aren’t tuned properly IMO. They are overly flowery and sickly positive even when describing something plain. Prompting them to be more succinct only has them cut themselves off and leave out important things. But I can totally see that improving soon.

Rabbits sounds like screaming babies! Nearly had a heart attack when one got stuck in the spokes of a decorative antique bicycle in the garden and the neighbour’s cat was swatting at it. My mom was out there crying, trying to pull it out.

Planet of the apes

Really it’s crowdsourcing and statistics. Show an image to a big enough crowd and someone will pick something up. It’s like the birthday problem but with geography.

Instead, the overly broad definition and lack of any waiver authority in this bill would result in extremely harsh and unintended consequences including the removal of survivors of domestic violence.”
Have your wife deported by beating her. Just as God intended.

Had a DOS game (which was a port of something even older) that started with a “BARBARIAN!”. Had the worst control scheme I’ll ever see. Function keys for fuck’s sake.

Culture shock #2. A public American toilet may require “thousands” of toilet brushings daily.

Yeah well. We kind of had to deal with bears the size of a fucking house for a while. At least until we wiped out their main food source. And rival hominids with at least spears.

You wouldn’t happen to sleep on your back, would you? I used to get that often until one year it got really bad when I was sleeping on a couch on my back. I moved to the bed after putting 2 and 2 together. Haven’t had one since.
