Same, its existence gives me a little of hope even in the toughest moments. I don’t care if people aren’t always nice/polite, you have to deal with it IRL or on any online platform.
Lemmy has always been a sort of “cure” for me, listening to different people’s opinions and learning something new or a new perspective on things every day.

This is always funny (and holds always true) no matter how old the meme is.

Does this mean Napoléon wants to rule over the whole continent (again)?

As an Italian who knows a little Romanian, I think that this kind of “șmecherie” (the kind of “you think you can cheat but I’m smarter than you”) is one of the traits that unites the most our nationalities.

Italy too (or worse!)

In my country we don’t even have minimum wages so I don’t have to worry about this! 🤣🤣🤣 tsk… first world problems…
- Comment on English may be a hot mess but at least we don't have to worry about this nonsense 9 months ago:
In Italian too “la lavatrice”. And the dishwasher too, “la lavastoviglie”. btw we have gender fluid nouns like “the table” = “il tavolo” / “la tavola” with slightly different usage patterns.
Italian and Spanish are easier than French because the final -o (masculine) or -a (feminine) usually give a hint, with a few expections you have to learn by heart (“la mano” meaning “the hand” in both languages for example)…

Guys you are late, this piece of news is one month old and there has not been any turmoil in Italy for this, not even by leftists…

EssilorLuxottica is an Italian company 🤌🤌🤌 How come are foreign companies (and from unreliable countries) allowed to provide crucial industry equipment like facial recognition devices?
- Comment on Italian foreign minister calls for formation of EU army 11 months ago:
Now I remember: the EU was founded to maintain peace in the continent. Replace “peace” with “armed repression of dissent” (which is just another way the Italian government defines “peace” nowadays) and it makes sense.
- Comment on Bonjour, je m'appelle Jesus 11 months ago:
I received a strong catholic education, the red and blue are symbols for the blood and water that came out from Jesus side when he was pierced by a Roman soldier, John 19:34
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Are the Germans going to lead the war as last time? It went so well maybe it’s time to repeat the experience for younger generations. /s

At least they have a long term strategy… unlike western Europe where mandatory conscription was abolished in many countries. Idiots.

I confirm that I had accidentally blocked my community… maybe pressing options like a monkey in the webapp when trying to share a post. Sorry, I feel really stupid! As for the pin, I’ll check it. Thanks in the meantime 🙏🙏🙏 sorry for the nuisance.

The “show read posts” option is active. The strange thing is that it happens only for that specific community.

I don’t know whether it’s a urban legend, but apparently Icelandic has a hundred or so names for snow. We have many specific words for what is important for our survival. 🍝🍕🤌

Love the Italian “contamination” in Corsica (in inverted commas because I don’t know which influenced which).
- Comment on Tromboner 1 year ago:
In Italian that instrument is called “trombone a tiro” and, well, it has a resemblance with the slang verb “tr*mbare” for some reason that only today I have figured out.

Notable exception among romance languages would be Romanian where “imaginație” and “națiune” evolved differently.

- “quale nazione?”

Critical thinking implies the ability to understand other people’s point of view, learn from your own and other’s mistakes, discern what if good and what is bad in the other person’s reasoning and in one’s own. Not believing like a bigot that since it’s written in the Bible or in any other book it is a form of revealed truth.
