Excel is a problem since it changes constantly and relies so much on the mouse. I’m a developer and struggle every time I’m forced to use it.
Search engines have also gotten terrible over the last few years so it’s a pretty bad time to learn how to use a computer. Old videos from the 90s and 2000s are great to learn the basics, but unfortunately you can’t really follow along.
Paid courses for the basics of MS office exist, maybe you’ll be able to find one that starts from zero and teaches the basics of using a computer at all.

It’s already back to working for me (frankfurt data center) and I was able to order my new deck.

I still have a Wii with a custom launcher and a hard drive full of games lying around. I should use it again, there isn’t another game quite like excite truck.
- Comment on Elite Dangerous studio Frontier Developments announce layoffs and "organisational review" 1 year ago:
It’s an MMO, you can’t just go out and mod that. You could mod it visually, but that would eat into their profits from the store so it makes sense to not allow that as long as the game gets updates.
- Comment on well duh. 1 year ago:
It doesn’t get too much better if you just add more parties. What you need is a robust protection against corruption.

What a shame, I wish they had some spare money to pour into elite. It’s a great game that deserves some love.

But that’s how politics work nowadays. You need to assume that every group is homogenous and when someone from that group points out that it isn’t, you call them a hypocrite.

Thanks, I use KDE on X already (thank you nvidia) and find gnome’s design absolutely asinine, so I’ll try to fiddle around with the compositor settings.

Great, I play a lot on it and the only game I had to use windows for so far was titanfall 2 because it kept stuttering on linux and troubleshooting stutter is hard.

Classic microsoft move.
Linux has gotten great over the years and keeps improving while windows gets worse and worse every day. This has been going on for many years now.
I switched already and suggest you give it a shot as well. It’s honestly much easier than windows if you know the basics and understand how things are done there.
- Comment on What's that music called that was used in 90s documentaries about the birth of the earth? 1 year ago:
Not sure if it’s what you mean, but synthwave goes very well with anything space-related and fits the time period as well as what you described.

It relaxes and grounds you. I started during a particularly stressful exam phase and it helped with managing stress.
- Comment on Does Lemmy currently gives too much trust to other instances? 1 year ago:
But that’s a manual process. It would be nice to monitor the federation status of all servers and slap an algorithm like K-Means on that to find clusters and outliers.
You could then decide which ones to autonatically federate/defederate based on that data.
I’m going to look into that, maybe I can write the part that gathers the data.
- Comment on Why don’t we use radiators as heat sinks in the summer and pump cold water through them? 1 year ago:
Because cold water isn’t free. If you want to create something cold, you want to be using a conpressor and at that point, you can just skip the water step and use an AC.

Can’t watch it with sound right now, but that dude has some serious Klaus Schwab vibes.
- Comment on How did Android's update support become so inconsistent? 1 year ago:
Qualcomm needs to maintain their drivers to make updates easy, but they usually do that for just a few years. Once they stop, updates usually stop as well because the smartphone manufacturers don’t want to do qualcomm’s work in addition to their own.
It’s a major issue that hurts android as a whole and unfortunately there isn’t an easy solution because qualcomm basically has a monopoly for high-end SoCs.

Classic HN. The content can be absolute garbage but the discussion is still great.

That’s why I carry a ventoy with debian LTS. I went with the full KDE pack, so I get the KDE partition manager in a live boot environment.
I highly recommend it.
