Can I ask something that sounds off-topic?
Do you have hobbies outside of work? In my field there are people who really don’t. They pour all of their being into their identity of the field, and when it comes time to retire or they medically can’t work it destroys them. And usually the reason they medically can’t work is the nature of the work itself. Many of the same occupational stressors that you yourself would face as an emergency nurse.
I only ask because it sounds like the only discussions you willingly engage in are related to patient care/nursing. Caring for others without nurturing yourself is not sustainable.
I’m sorry to hear you were removed from ER. ICU is a really valuable learning space, since the most critical patients have so many body systems involved. If you wanted to grow, you can also then branch into related specialties like neuro ICU or cicu etc. I would highly, highly recommend finding something that fills your cup outside of work first, though. Then it also gives you something to talk about that you don’t find boring or tedious :)

I feel guilty. I boarded my cats today to go on my first vacation in years. We kept it local so we can come back pretty easy if something happens, and the facility is super bougie, with webcams and daily photo and video updates. One of my cats has special needs and it makes it difficult to have her watched by a friend or family. Logically I know they are safe and looked after but damn I miss them and I don’t know how I’m going to sleep without my little purring weighted blankets :(

- Comment on Whatever happened to cheap eReaders? 2 months ago:
I’m going to be honest, I read on my Kobo way more than I read physical books, and I own a floor to ceiling bookshelf in desperate need of weeding. Public library integration through Libby can’t be beat, I love that it has a backlight, and it’s more comfortable to read long novels especially- and no danger of ruining. Don’t get me wrong- I love the tactile feel of paper and the smell of old books, but there’s a lot to be said for convenience. Also- library ebooks don’t accrue late fees, which have been a major source of guilt for me my entire life.

You have to realize that’s not what happened here, right? This was not voluntary, and career ending. That 9.6 mill won’t go as far as you think with lawyers fees, and then the medical bills and likely extensive rehab.

Costco sells rotisserie chicken at a loss. It’s an easy way to get cheap, relatively healthy, low effort protein.
- Comment on Game design question : how to make a "trapped" player character? 3 months ago:
Funny enough, I just finished playing through Paper Mario 64, and you’ve basically described Peach’s chapters. She’s able to pass on messages by way of using another character as a messenger.
The way the game is structured is there’s a mini Peach chapter in between each main chapter, but I think it would have been intriguing if you never actually got to see Mario’s side of the story and only heard about his adventures from the guards, diary entries, etc. Cool idea for a puzzle game!

Hayao Miyazaki’s art style specifically has so much life injected into it, that you would have to be incredibly specific to even approach his style.
There’s an instance that stands out in Spirited Away, when Chihiro is putting on her shoes, she taps the toes of one foot against the ground to set it on correctly. A miniscule detail, but one that makes her feel more real. You’d need such an elaborate prompt to make that happen via AI, but thats the kind of detail that he includes in his movies. To him, the thought of having “someone” illustrate that who has never put their shoe on incorrectly and had to fix it is beyond inauthentic. That’s my take. Less about the worry of technology taking over, and more about the technology not understanding the language it’s being taught, because it can’t.

But that’s why you do a single snow pea, with a repeater behind. Until you can save up for winter melons, then you replace 3/5 sunflowers with them in the back row and have two rows of repeaters. Then some tall nuts and spikeweed (my beloved).
