- Comment on Why are American cops allowed to be morbidly obese? 1 week ago:
Heard from a local cop that it had something to do with the union. If the department wants to implement a standard the union would require something or other. Something about an incentive? I didn’t get the whole picture obviously. I know police need unions in case somebody sues them but does seem kind of dumb that it’s so difficult to enforce a physical standard.
- Comment on Why is having a lawyer present during police interviews "opt in" rather than "opt out"? 1 week ago:
Came here to say this. There’s even been movements like you find in the book Rebooting Justice to try and essentially digitize menial legal matters so that lawyers just have to put the finishing touches on them. I wonder how involved AI will get in the next 5-10 years.
Also 2nd the point on choosing not to exercise certain rights. You have the right to free speech but you may not feel like talking, etc
- Comment on Why is lemmy so political?! 2 weeks ago:
Respectfully I’d disagree. I can’t scroll through most of my meme or shitposting communities without seeing some politically flavored post, and there’s some kind of political comment on probably 85% of those posts. I get politics is an important topic but people often don’t have the class to keep politics out of the more “fun” communities. I keep to my subscribed list, block the spammers, but it’s fairly pervasive. I suppose that’s not all a bad thing as I get on social media a lot less atm. If you’ve got any additional tips though I’d love to hear them.

- Comment on Is Andrew Yang involved at all in Harris's campaign? 7 months ago:
Probably because the question is political in nature and people are fed up of seeing it outside of political subs. I know this is nostupidquestions but during (American) election season especially it’s somewhat an etiquette to exercise political hygiene.

I’m hungry for memes though :/ Not really seeing much, searching through communities, and I’ve tried a few times. There’ll come a day though if this keeps getting worse.

I was reporting those posts for politics and one of the mods told me to stop or I’d get a ban. Still undecided on whether to take him or her up on that offer but I have started blocking accounts and that’s helped a bit.

Pitching in for Interesting NPCs. Adds a ton of characters/followers and several quests. If I picked no other mod (outside of unofficial patch) it’d be this one.
- Comment on Why do hacked channels on youtube always post Tesla/SpaceX stuff? 11 months ago:
I was thinking more along the lines of a troll hacking an account and then trolling more by posting things they know a lot of people would get angry at. People don’t even have to open the video, just visit/be subscribed to the channel. “Some men like to watch the world burn” kind of vibe.

If I had to guess, it’d be that it’s easy rage bait since folks get so worked up over him.

- Comment on Are MRNA vaccines any riskier than other vaccines? 1 year ago:
Hypothetically, it could be because those folks have already died or are experiencing effects that genpop refuses to corroborate with the treatment. There’s been a major bias against reporting side effects (not that the process has ever been fully hashed out) and iirc the ‘cine industry is the only one you can’t sue, so any potentially-educational lawsuits that might’ve been are a nonstarter. Not saying these things are confirmed but that there’s definitely room for a lot to fly under the radar.

What you’re saying already has a cult following, especially the Mother Gaia types. Forecasting the end has been a thing for hundreds of years (at least).

Comment on any political post if you desire hatred, those are astoundingly vitriolic here.
- Comment on What are the connotations of Joe Rogan? 1 year ago:
My friend, you’ve asked this question in a very left-leaning forum. As you can see, most or all of these answers are gonna be from people who generally disagree with Rogan. If you want to get an idea of what his podcast is about there’s lots of short clips from his podcast on YouTube. I think we need more context as to why your acquaintance is saying this to answer questions you might have about connotations or meaning.
- Comment on The other day I heard a friend talking about how "the moon's gravity affects our internal organs." This sounds like bull, but is it? And if so, how would I correct their misinformation? 1 year ago:
I would ask your friend what the “so what” of that is. I have heard a lot of anecdotal evidence from teachers experiencing more crazy behavior from their kids around the full moon or people sleeping or feeling worse around that time. Might just be something we don’t understand yet, but again, what’s your friends answer to the “so what”? We can’t do anything about it, as far as I know.
