To play devil’s advocate – Liberalism, or the idea that the people who are ruled should have a say in the rules, started coming about ~500 years ago. The elite’s were all always evil and bad to the masses, enslaving us, paying us very little, even clocks and timekeeping were used to trick workers into more hours and when pocket watches became available, they were just banned in early industry.
A lot of people fought and died to establish the idea of Liberalism all the way up to unions and workers rights. So, in a way, ‘we’ did fight for those things and earned them over a long time. It does kind of feel like now the same ‘we’ has forgotten the value of that stuff and the sacrifice it took to get there.
I still don’t really see this as our fault. We live in gilded age II where money is virtue no matter how its acquired. The internet broke the stable propaganda machines and we’re in flux of stabilizing around the new ones and kicking out the smaller bad actors.

- Comment on Those of you who are friendly with your coworkers but no friends, where exactly do you lay the boundary? 2 months ago:
This always has worked out pretty naturally for me. I do a lot of work travel and events so you do get close and build relationships with people – some can even become friends and I’d not be a fan of some way where you never allow yourself to make friends with people you spend 1/3 of 5/7 days with.
Even the people I’m close with and worked for years with I don’t call them in a crisis or share super personal stuff – Maybe the answer is you don’t depend on them or have them depend on you for anything.

no I think it’s a main focus but I did notice a bit of a drop off when they got to the dragon – Hopefully they correct course because I’d quit watching if it was just anime – I don’t really watch anime

Amazing – slightly OT but anyone watch delicious in dungeon? I love they made a whole show just to show anime cooking segments

I do agree video games are the best bang for buck entertainment by a mile
- Comment on Larian Started Work on Baldur's Gate 3 DLC, Then Canceled It: "The Studio Was Elated" 3 months ago:
The non cosmetic Paradox DLCs fundamentally change the games so if you want to actually play the latest version of the game with all the mechanics you have to get them all. You can get them on steam sale usually for like 50 bucks a couple times a year.
I’m not defending it – It is what colors me most against DLCs.
I still just don’t like the idea of it – Why not do a DLC for movies and paintings and books? It feels wrong to fork a work of art or say “Oh sorry I didn’t actually make it all here’s the other 20%”
Come to think of it – Movie sequels are kind of like that these days where it’s just one story broken up instead of multiple separate stories. I wish we just did 4 hour movies with intermission but I’m sure I’m alone there.

I didn’t even buy the Rimworld DLCs and I have 500+ hours! I did look at them but didn’t buy. Now that DF is graphical I mostly just play that now tbh.
DF is a great example – 15+ years updates no DLCs unless you count the steam release.

Yeah I don’t think so – Sequels are the thing you’re supposed to have I think. Everyone drooling over having subscriptions since MMOs sucks and it really looks like the whole culture of the industry is pretty shitty in a lot of ways

Also know you can play 2 player local natively built into the story in both games so if you have a roommate or SO it’s a really fun time!

Perhaps but I can’t see anyone who is interested in creating and communicating fake worlds eschewing the idea too much. If you make a fake world, there’s no way you could ever ‘get it all out’ since you’re just one guy. This would open up that possibility to make a world bigger than yourself and what you can get out of your brain

But not me – None of them have ever reached my bar except for BG3 – I care less about video game stories and more about mechanics/freedom of choice to be fair
- Comment on Baldur's Gate 4 Isn't Next For Larian; Something Bigger Is Coming | Spot On | Gamespot 3 months ago:
Maybe now, but everyone was afraid to fund 100MM BG3 because they thought no one wanted CRPG and they want Fortnite or whatever. Hopefully Larian spawns more people who actually care about their users instead of just greed
- Comment on Baldur's Gate 4 Isn't Next For Larian; Something Bigger Is Coming | Spot On | Gamespot 3 months ago:
I agree – that’s why I never saw the games I dreamed of – Greed. Not some lack of skill, ideas or ability to execute

They do ~6B a year and clear about a billion, so that’s actually like 10% of their profit which is a lot for a company that big – wow!
- Comment on Baldur's Gate 4 Isn't Next For Larian; Something Bigger Is Coming | Spot On | Gamespot 3 months ago:
I think the way video game devs/people are (from what I can see from outside) they are well poised to realize someone making an LLM or a finetune or whatever you want to call it – that produces master level dialogue/stories/whatever is (will be) a skill just like storytelling/writing is.
If I were a JRR Tolkien or Herbert with a universe in my mind, it would be so much more pleasing to make an engine that generates anything from that world that to just write out a few stories from it.
Sounds cool to me

You only get one BG3 every lifetime though – It was how I thought games would be when I was a kid almost perfectly, but it is the only one…

100% the future. Like has anyone put all the billion pages of lore from TES into a GPT finetune? Surely that would make better dialogue than HALT! for the 900000000 time right?
