- Comment on Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet 6 months ago:
Why didn’t you tell this librarian that you’d asked another librarian and they said it was okay to plug in? Why was none of this included in the original post?
- Comment on Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet 6 months ago:
Do you trust every one-sided story to be entirely accurate of all details?
And what does trust have to do with it? Can we use Ethernet here? If the person says no, would you just walk around the building until you found a port and plugged in?
- Comment on Why do Americans measure everything in cups? 7 months ago:
It’s a lot easier for me to scoop 1/2 teaspoon of two spices, one tablespoon of another, and 2 teaspoons of a fourth than to measure 1.8 grams of one, 2.2 grams of one, 5.2 grams of one, and 3.8 grams of a fourth. The scoops I can put in the container and level off the top using the same container. The other way, I have to gently sprinkle or slowly scoop and sprinkle so it doesn’t go over the required amount.
Way faster for me to scoop, level, dump.
- Comment on How does the day-to-day work of not wearing shoes in the house? 7 months ago:
You just take your shoes off at the door and put them back on when you leave.

Or they died.

Indie games is really where it’s at right now.
- Comment on Will Smith Zombie Game No One Has Heard Of Bombs 7 months ago:
On skimming, I’d thought it had something to do with the kpop group, BTS. They have a song called Louder than Bombs.
- Comment on 23-year-old Nintendo interview shows how little things have changed in gaming 8 months ago:
We got a Switch to play BotW.
I guess you had to grow up playing Zelda games after Link to the Past in order to enjoy the gameplay. Coming from other systems, it was very unintuitive, uncomfortable, and basically unplayable since we couldn’t remap the controls. Also, the world was just kind of dead?
I dunno, it was a big disappointment.

- Comment on This is $87 worth of shopping. Please feel free to use the space below to critique my purchases 8 months ago:
I don’t keep milk or heavy cream in the house and I don’t think it would work as well with soy, so I don’t think this will work for everyone.
- Comment on Tethered plastic caps 8 months ago:
We also have that in Michigan. You still see bottles and cans places. Historically, there have a lot of ‘reward programs’ that incentivised keeping bottle caps separate (either from the company or occasionally locally for reasons). I also distinctly remember it being advertised that bottle needed to be capless for recycling, so we always removed the caps and tossed them. Only recently have I seen verbiage on bottles requesting them to be recycled with caps on, which I usually forget to do because it’s habit to toss the caps.
- Comment on Where are the good political songs? 9 months ago:
Well, NPR did an entire article of 20 protest songs that came out in 2020. Looks like they might have made a Spotify playlist of them at one point too.
Here are 30 protest albums that came out in the first half of 2022
Here are 50 protest songs from 2023.
These are just results from pretty simple Google searches. ‘protest songs year’.

Your Only Move is Hustle
Starfield
Shadows of Doubt
Contraband Police
Remnant 2
Which game out of the choices given do you think most people have heard of?
- Comment on Baldur's Gate 3 has won Steam's 2023 GOTY Award 10 months ago:
Nah, this makes sense to me.
In order to get full credit (for the badge or card or whatever they had), you had to vote for every category.
I’ve never played a VR game, but I still had to vote in that category, so I just… picked something.
RDR2 is something a lot of folks have played. Hogwarts is something a lot of folks have played.

More like, a bunch of greedy folks overreached and lost their business to another bunch of greedy folks who sold to another group of greedy folks.
At least we don’t have a splat book coming out every other week these days.
- Comment on China announced new laws to limit microtransactions, affecting major corporations like Tencent. 10 months ago:
In 2019, it was limited to 90 minutes on weekdays and not between the hours of 10 pm to 8 am.
In 2021, it was changed to 1 hour per day, only on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.

- Comment on Another example of shrink flation... oh, my beer... 11 months ago:
One of our local breweries sold to Lion (an Australian company), which is a subsidiary of Kirin (a Japanese company), back in 2021. That site still says they’re ‘regional’ and they have a stamp that they’re part of the Brewer’s Association.
So YMMV.

Let’s stop pretending T$R was a bastion of consumer values.
- Comment on While everyone is watching the world stage and some are predicting WWIII, isn't there a good chance that the USA is getting close to some kind of civil war? 11 months ago:
600K people spread across the US really isn’t that many to deal with. Even if they were all in one place, they wouldn’t be able to do much damage to most of the country before being contained.
1 in 8 being food insecure also is not high enough. Choosing less nutritious food options is a measurement of it, so you could still be eating, just not good food because you live in the middle of a food desert. Most folks in the US are not food insecure.
You’re going to have to tick that number up to over half of the US not being able to eat once a day or more. Like the depression, or worse, but without any government assistance.
- Comment on Are any self-cleaning cat litter boxes any good, or worth the money? 11 months ago:
It does, but you don’t have to buy their litter, as long as the one you get does the same thing.
- Comment on What's the deal with the popcorn button? 11 months ago:
I haven’t seen many microwaves without a popcorn button since the 90s. We usually skip over the few that don’t when we need to shop for a new microwave (which I’ve bought two microwaves in the last twenty years, so not a common expense). I’d consider it a basic function, not over-engineering.
- Comment on ‘The Marvels’ Meltdown: Disney MCU Seeing Lowest B.O. Opening Ever At $47M+ 1 year ago:
Ms. Marvel was fine, but it was, basically, a Nickelodeon kids show and most adults aren’t going to want to sit through that.

I mean Warcraft was originally an RTS. No one thinks about that now.
A StarCraft game in the vein of Mass Effect would be dope.
