- Comment on Why does everyone here think they're autistic or ADHD? The memes all describe normal human foibles. 1 day ago:
Typically the difference is that people with autism and or ADHD experience things more frequently or more intensely than others.
Yes, all these things are normal for most folks, but how often and the severity of these symptoms are diffrent.
For example, I have ADHD, and one of the symptoms of that is I’m easily distracted. For most people, this would sound fairly normal, but even when its something important, or something I want to do, my brain is moving on to a billion other things all at once rather than focusing on the task at hand. Medication helps immensely with this, but it still happens even on my meds at times. That is not normal.
Also the autism spectrum is a spectrum for a reason. Some people appear to cope better than others and some can’t cope at all. Masking is normal but for someone with autism it can be exhausting because some people with autism never stop masking. They are constantly aware they aren’t “normal” and it stresses them out.
Its hard to understand these kinds of feelings if you’re Neurotypical. Our brains work differently from others, which might sound like “I’m special” but honestly, I’d rather not have ADHD. Shit sucks dude. I fucking hate not being able to do things like a normal person. Its a curse.
People ive met with ADHD or autism, its just nice to be seen and feel like were understood which is why these memes are often posted or are popular with those crowds.
- Comment on How Are You Guys Handling This? 5 days ago:
Older and or used hardware is gonna be a place to start for CPU and GPU. Used dell optiplex can get you most of the way there, then buy a decent GPU when you can. Just make sure it fits in the case and the PSU that comes with the optiplex can handle the power draw. I’d recommend a new PSU though. Dont buy used for PSU or storage is the best advice I can give.
Optiplex are not gonna get you top of the line performance or anything but it’ll be a lot better than nothing and you can always use it for something else later like a nas, a server, home theater PC, etc.

- Comment on Do you preorder games? 1 week ago:
Me personally, I’ll never pre-order a game. Pre ordering is different from early access because i actually get the game even in a unfinished state.
All that said, it depends on the game. Timberborn has been the only early access game I felt has been worth it. The Devs are still putting out regular updates and have vastly improved the game since i bought it. Its been very fun to play from the beginning and has only gotten better.
Compare that to something like cyberpunk, yea I’m good. Couldn’t imagine how that must of felt to preorder that and get that mess on release. I think the main difference is the studio. AAA games I rarely buy anymore. Indie games though? Thats where I’m at.
- Comment on How to relax and most importantly stop thinking about the things i could be doing? 4 months ago:
As someone who also has ADHD, definitely agree. Lists are a good way to get things out of your head where its jumbled unto a format that your brain actually can use and process with less noise.
On my meds I can keep things together a lot better, but lists are still something I use all the time.
- Comment on Final Fantasy X programmer doesn’t get why devs want to replicate low-poly PS1 era games. “We worked so hard to avoid warping, but now they say it’s charming” - AUTOMATON WEST 4 months ago:
Wow, Ive never heard that before but that is such a beautiful way of putting it. I love art that’s messy and weird. Music that sounds imperfect where you can hear mistakes or “imperfections”. Either intentional or not, I love those kinds of things in art. Makes it human.
- Comment on Instead of asking all my stupid questions separately, could I just get a ton of "How to Adult" type resources in the comments? 6 months ago:
Since you mentioned having ADHD in another comment which I also have, some things that have helped me and may also help those without ADHD as well:
-
Remove friction from everyday tasks whenever possible. If you make it easier to get stuff done around the house, you’ll have more bandwidth for other things.
-
Setting alarms for things that you have to do is awesome. really helps with staying organized and just being on top of things. same goes for calendar reminders. keeping a calendar took me a while to get into the habit of but its super helpful.
-
Anything you can have on autopay that you intend to keep like cell service, internet, utilities* etc. you should. It just makes sense rather than going through it each month for so many different things. *Utilities might not be good to have on autopsy just in case you have weird discrepancies. one month I had to pay $1000 for electric. I called before unpaid that lol.
-
Use a credit card for small things each month to help build credit. i have a card that all its for is my cell service. Its on autopay as well as the payments for that card.
-
Keep things in a cart for a while before buying them, it can help you to determine if you actually want that thing or really need it.
Also just cause others were talking about it, I find using videos as well a tutorials and documentation to all be helpful when troubleshooting/figuring things out, everyone learns differently and ADHD makes things like that harder. Having multiple ways to ingest that info can be helpful IMO. Not that anyone here is necessarily wrong in what they said, just coming from someone that also has ADHD, I get the struggles.

Yup was gonna say the same thing.
I took Sydney a couple years after I moved out of my parents place because I wanted a cat. He and his brother fought all the time so my mom thought it’d be better if they were apart.
Sydney and his brother even though they grew up together were better off separate.
- Comment on Is Pop_OS! kind of bad? 7 months ago:
Very true. I thought Pop!OS would be easier for me to use and get things to work and in some ways it was, steam didn’t give me grief like Fedora’s KDE spin did.
- Comment on Is Pop_OS! kind of bad? 7 months ago:
I had issues with Pop!OS as well, and after switching to Kubuntu, performance is much better.
It was likely due to the Gnome extensions I was using but without them, Pop!OS just felt really unfriendly to me. I like to be able to tweak everything, its one of the reasons why I switched to Linux in the first place and Pop!os just feels way too locked down compared to KDE. Like you mentioned, it kinda felt like I was fighting it at times, especially trying to change the file manager. What a fucking headache, never got that to work either.
Aside from that, Pop is a decent distro, and I think cosmic is going to make it a lot better because Gnome is really the biggest sore spot IMO.
- Comment on Musical self-promotion on Lemmy? 8 months ago:
As a artist myself, I think a community dedicated to artists that allows for self promotion would make more sense rather than in already established communities if it doesn’t fit into that communities theme or purpose. So a gaming focused community with a day for game Devs to post about their game makes sense, or a music community where self promo is allowed for an account every few months etc.
As much as I love looking at other peoples work, appreciating their art, and sharing my own, I’m also very mindful that not everyone wants to have that kind of thing in a community dedicated to something else like this one. Self promo stuff can be awesome when someone is passionate about their work but it also can be very spammy type of stuff where someone is a bit too enthusiastic about posting about their album EVERY month.
Thats just my opinion. Nothing wrong with your post asking about it,l just to be clear.

- Comment on work related: is this something only an autistic would ask? 10 months ago:
Absolutely agreed, I get where your coming from. My point being is that a neurotypical would at least have put some emotion into their response or maybe try to deescalate.
That said, reading through the other comments, it looks like there was more to the interaction. Either way, I dont think the other person handled it well. You didn’t do anything wrong in your response to her yelling at you. Hanging up the phone and walking away is perfectly reasonable.
I myself would have probably been very anxious in the moment and furious after.
Everyone is different though, its a spectrum for a reason.
- Comment on work related: is this something only an autistic would ask? 10 months ago:
Most folks would get mad or say something if someone yelled at them. When you have autism or other neurodivergence of some kind, you tend to respond to things differently.
Since you just said “ok” without explanation or complaint, and then hung up, thats very matter of fact, straight to the point, and lacks the more emotional response most neurotypical people would have.
This is of course just my opinion based on what you have mentioned and my own personal experiences. Not everyone presents Autsim in the same way and I’m not a classic example of ADHD, so take all that with a grain of salt.
- Comment on work related: is this something only an autistic would ask? 10 months ago:
Not neurotypical, but I have ADHD so some of the same stuff you may experience being autistic applies. Not one for one, but I also know a few autistic people and my partner is autistic.
To start, nothing needs to be “wrong” with you to have autism. Its just a different way of thinking and processing. I often tell myself the same thing, I’m not bad or wrong for having ADHD, I’m just different. Just wanted to throw that out there, its very easy to get caught up in that thinking and I’m guilty of it as well.
As for what you experienced, some people just blow up when they’ve had a bad day or are stressed. Your question doesn’t really seem off or unreasonable, I think the way that person handled it was in the wrong if anything. You shouldn’t yell at anyone like that under normal circumstances, certainly not at work.
The way you responded was more indicative of being autistic to an extent.
IMO, nothing wrong with you my friend, seems they had an issue.

I’d imagine the EU has at least as good if not better protections than the US for consumers but I hope you get your money back man.
Its not just about the money, its about the principal. Microsoft can afford to give you back 12 euros.
And now writing that out i realize i should have caught you were in the EU lol
- Comment on Microsoft refund problem 11 months ago:
Yea this isnt legal if you never got the product. That would be a scam.
If you’re in the US I’m sure the BBB and or FTC as well as your attorney general would love to hear all about how they never gave money back for a product you never got.

I have used discover and other similar apps like the Pop shop but man are they just not quite there yet imo.
I installed Pop!OS on my media pc recently and that gave me more problems than discover on my main pc running Fedora.
Both were good for finding apps but installing was kind of a pain. Usually it would crash, or not install at all, sometimes canceling would hang forever, etc.
Though this could be due to my internet being shit where i live atm so ymmv.

It has gotten easier the more I’ve used it amd I’m very stubborn so I’ll be here a while lol.
Unfortunately the only person i know that also uses Linux uses Gentoo so he’ll have to compile my question for a few days before he can answer it.

Oh so its not just me who thinks its gotten worse then. I was starting to go a little crazy man. It seems like its slowly gottwn worse over time. I wonder if its due to the amount of ai content messing up seo ratings or something

From what I can see just from a quick google, its in reference to a tiktok.

From what I’ve heard, most people that are for in office work like having the separation between work and home.
That being said, I think most folks want remote work or at least remote hybrid. It just makes more sense especially for me. I live far from my office (140 mile drive roundtrip), and working 3 days a week from home has been a god send.

- Comment on Can you live a fulfilling life with autism? 1 year ago:
I know 3 different people that are on the spectrum and while they do experience life differently and face different and or unique challenges, yes, absolutely you can live a normal fulfilling life.
Like with any mental health condition, it can make things that are everyday or normal for most folks more difficult so its important to not only seek guidance from a mental health professional but also have a good support structure. People you can count on to help you when you need it.
Everyone is a little different of course so finding the right fit for each can be kinda hard but all 3 people i know are happy, healthy, and are living a good life.
Everyone is weird anyways. I know plenty of neruotypical people that do weird stuff. Humans are weird by nature so what “normal” is to one person might be “weird” to another.
