Oh so that’s why they call it Bean Town!
- Comment on Matter 1.4 has some solid ideas for the future home—now let’s see the support - Ars Technica 1 week ago:
Except with Matter, all of those other standards are buying into the universal standard.

Yeah, but so many posts don’t include political keywords in the titles. I have a lot filtered out, but unless we enforced tagging, a lot still comes through.

I’d be happy if Lemmy implemented tags and each community enforced them. Then clients could just filter out “politics”
- Comment on Wolf Man | Official Teaser - Directed by Leigh Whannell, out January 17 2 months ago:
I was hoping this teaser would show the wolf man and it would be way different than what we saw before. That, mixed with the fact that it’s being released in January, makes me think it’s going to be bad.

This is how I feel too. Studies show that 30% of gym goers are on steroids as well. So keep at it and don’t feel bad that you’re not at the top.
- Comment on Oil 2 months ago:
You don’t choose from where you get your oil. There’s one oil market. You can choose to ban imports of oil from certain countries (like Russia).
The better move is just to migrate further away from oil usage altogether.
- Comment on "Terminator 1 Is Pretty Obsolete": James Cameron Tackles Changes To The Sci-Fi Genre In The Past 40 Years 2 months ago:
Hear me out. Terminator needs to pull a Prey/Godzilla Minus One. The T-1000 can’t kill Sarah Connor before John is born? Send another one to kill Sarah Connor’s great grandmother. It’s the turn of the century, and a T-1000 is hunting a young adult in 1895. I’d watch that. It’s be a smaller budget, but it’d be so exciting because Great Granny Connor has to be incredibly resourceful in order to take out a beast like that.
- Comment on Beijing and Hollywood are decoupling as Chinese audiences favor domestic productions 2 months ago:
This is why I see it as a good thing. No more cut same-sex kisses, no more shrinking the black character on the poster. Let’s leave the CCP behind and move on without them.
- Comment on How is Lemmy better than Reddit? 3 months ago:
Everyone’s talking about the tech, but I’ll talk about the user base. When you make a post or comment on Reddit, it often feels like you get lost in some black hole of other posts or comments. No one sees your comment because there are 1000 other comments on the same post.
At Lemmy, there are fewer users and fewer comments, but your comments actually get seen. People upvote. I weirdly get way more upvotes at Lemmy than I did at Reddit, in spite of the smaller user base here. Because of that, I’m way more active here than I was on Reddit.
- Comment on Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine 2000 vs 2024 3 months ago:
Eating healthier would be so much easier if I had someone professionally trained at making healthy things tastier cooking food for me.
Adding to that, time constraints wouldn’t be an issue. Sometimes making great tasting things is really a matter of spending a long time on a dish.
- Comment on Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine 2000 vs 2024 3 months ago:
That, mixed with several months of full-time training, world class trainers, and a personal chef.

If it was fuelled by burning other wealth hoarders, I may agree with it.
- Comment on David Ayer posts on social media to rally fans into demanding the release of the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad 3 months ago:
It could actually hurt. I love the Snyder Cut, but the rallying to get it out created a cult-like group that hates on anything DC not made by Snyder.
On top of that, most people don’t even know which heroes are Marvel and which are DC. Having more than 1 DC universe releasing at a time will be confusing to people, and should only be done if that universe is really really successful (Joker, The Batman).
- Comment on The 10 worst science fiction movies of all time 3 months ago:
2012 is one of my favourite movies. I don’t care what this author thinks, I love that movie. It’s fun, over the top, and enjoyable. I’m not watching it for some science-accurate portrayal of the end of the world. I’m watching it for the entertaining destruction, and this movie hits it.

- Comment on Hollywood’s still relying on sequels at the box office 4 months ago:
This is a graph of how much people spend to watch each movie. If it was a graph of how Hollywood relies on sequels, it should show how much money they spent per movie.
All this shows is that people are spending their money on sequels. If people want that to change, they should spend their money on originals.

Congrats everyone, we got the Purge, but remember this is America where hoarding happens. Everyone doesn’t get one day, one person gets 4 years.
- Comment on Looks like something straight from Warhammer 40K 4 months ago:
The way it was explained to me, praying to a Saint to speak to God on your behalf is like asking a friend to pray for you. You could just pray to God yourself, but for some reason, having more people pray for you is better.
- Comment on Looks like something straight from Warhammer 40K 4 months ago:
Chances are, it isn’t. The early Catholic Church did a lot of this kind of thing, where they would claim to have a piece of the cross, or a bone of St Peter in a church. It was just to drive tourism into their churches. If you took all the claimed pieces of the cross and assembled them, it would make far more than one cross.

Hence the rant. It’s sad that men don’t seek to better themselves at the same rate.
Kudos to OP for looking to be the best step-dad he can be!

So… you do something to earn money. And you refer friends to do it too. You earn a portion of your referral’s earnings. And so you need to keep recruiting and having your recruits recruit.

“It’s odd that the word atheist even exists. I don’t play golf. Is there a word for non-golf players? Do non-golf players gather and strategize? Do non-skiers have a word and come together and talk about the fact that they don’t ski?”

Then don’t. I don’t believe in any god. I just don’t call myself an atheist. I’m just not anything. If there was a survey of which religion I belonged to, I just wouldn’t check any box. Then I don’t have to associate myself with any group, I just am.
