I second Horizon. There are moments where I’m convinced the graphics are pre-rendered when cranked to the max.

- Comment on How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals 1 week ago:
To add to this, the opposite of love is not hate, but ignore.
Giving your energy and attention to hating something typically means that they occupy enough mental real estate in your day to day life that you feel the need to broadcast it on a regular basis.
The liberals I know tend to spend the majority of their free time focusing on improving themselves and the world around them rather than simply target blame somewhere else.

- Comment on What do you personally use AI for? 3 weeks ago:
I’ve found it useful for getting approaches to programming projects. Rarely does it completely solve my problems, but it keeps me headed in the right direction.
I’m also partway through making my first ARG and it’s super useful for generating ideas, especially when I feed it my established lore because it can keep ideas within that universe.
I’ve found overall, it’s best to use it to fill in the gaps on ideas I have in general. I theoretically could make all of the content myself from scratch, but I’m honestly terrible at all the little details in many cases. It allows me to not dwell on the little stuff.

Waking Life. I tend to learn something new from it pretty much every time. It’s an incredibly dense movie talking about what it means to be alive and why we should value it. It was my introduction to a lot of Eastern philosophy.

Indie indie indie. It’s a play on AAA games, as far as I understand it.

They can be had for $30 on eBay these days. I used one for a school project when I was in middle school and picked it up mostly for the nostalgia. I do highly recommend picking up a manual as well if you plan on trying to make use of it.

Man, I’d honestly be really disappointed if that’s the case. It’s not even that I’m a big fan of WB characters specifically, but getting another classic cartoon-reality crossover is almost always a blast. And it’s not like their branding couldn’t use something new. Can’t remember the last time I’ve thought of most of their characters.

- Comment on It’s Official: Cars Are the Worst Category We Have Ever Reviewed for Privacy 8 months ago:
I’ve always looked at cars like factory equipment. They should do the job you ask and nothing more. Granted, more comfortable and prettier than factory equipment, but as far as functionality, it should be a static piece of metal until I start it, do the needful of spinning the motor and wheels and then stop. Anything else is a distraction from driving which I consider to be a distraction risk.
All these new cars with multiple screens, operating systems, internet connectivity, auto assists… it’s like we’re creating an entertainment center on wheels. Why bother the poor driver with the idea that they’re flying down the highway at 80 when you can convince them they’re in a floating living room?
Driving should be scary because it is, and the more we distance people from the road they’re driving on, the more of a surprise it will be when their “automagic” car sends them into a wall it didn’t detect.
Now as on the privacy issues that the car company makes wicked profit on and you’re making cars for the manufacturer and forgetting that the goal was to deliver the driver safely to begin with.
They want us to forget somehow that driving is one of the single most dangerous things people do daily. If you’re not completely alert being the wheel, you shouldn’t be behind it at all.

I can’t imagine buying a car that has the ability to lock me out of it remotely. Imagine if you didn’t have a nearby friend or relative to drive you home. If you’re the last guy to close at your work and it’s 2AM and your car doesn’t start because of paperwork not being filed correctly. Absolutely mind blowing.

This is why I do it. To encourage me to look around the game world and truly appreciate the amount of work that went into creating it. The games that build gameplay around no map benefit so much by allowing me to explore. It’s made WD:Legion so much more fun to approach. I get to figure out my way around building by using the gameplay mechanics they built and plan a route like a “real” hacker.

Oh, I absolutely did, and for exploring it adds a ton to the experience, but when trying to complete missions, there will be a dozen points marked on the minimap and no visual cues otherwise. Or if I need to travel to a mission, same thing. I disable it when I can, but I find myself having to re-enable every 10 minutes.

I honestly believe a HUD minimap is one of the worst game UI elements a game can have. There is rarely a canonical explanation to begin with as to why your character magically knows the layout of rooms they haven’t entered and even worse that they know the position of enemies.
Even further, in the rare case that it does make canonical sense, you find yourself staring at this little 2D representation of the map that frankly looks terrible in comparison to the game world, yet you are forced to use it for navigation.
The most egregious example of this is GTA V and RDR2. In GTA, you could maybe explain that there is a GPS, but why isn’t this mended with the phone your character has? And in RDR2? No explanation at all. It’s near impossible to get from A to B in RDR without missing a turn because I’m usually trying to pay attention to the environment. This absolutely does not foster exploration. It becomes a checklist of locations to visit and naturally finding elements in the game world rarely happens.
An example of this being done well is something like Watch Dogs or Assassin’s Creed where you could argue in Watch Dogs that their augmented reality tech makes sense to be able to get the drop on enemies and building layout. AC has the whole simulation aspect.
Another example is something like The Crew where you can reliably disable the map entirely with the overhead GPS line that guides the player. More games would benefit from this by keeping your eyes on the world.
I’d love to see more games where disabling the map doesn’t ruin gameplay. In AC and Watch Dogs, they were mostly made for this and a large portion of the game can be played almost entirely HUD-less.
One last thought to leave on is that of you feel you absolutely must guide the player by map, why not make the map in-engine like many journals in games. Hell, RDR2 has an in-world journal that feels super life-like. Why not extend this to the map?
