Doesn’t detract from the fact that they are beautiful. These are just as valid in their existence as monarchs. It’s easier, though, to kill things that you label as bad. I do it too. But human activity has made the monarch more pitiable and the lanternfly more hated. These insects are just trying to exist. It is our activity that has caused the problems. Sometimes we must remind ourselves of that, even though we must kill the invasives.

True. I do I think a human could internally decide to be trans, make any or no changes, declare it to others and still be valid as trans. Humans just really value certain observable indicators to tell what’s going on. There’s some kind of interesting metaphor about how humans being this way gives us a lot of interesting freedom to express ourselves but also limits us in many ways overlaid with what the tree is doing.

Over the weekend I saw an incredible display of the blue Ghost Firefly right up in my face while camping in Pisgah. What a thing. I have been reforming my entire yard to facilitate insects. This year I did have a significant amount of fireflies compared to years past. Things can change and get better. They might not, but we might as well try for good.
