Hitman.
Fuck the always online shit, but since last time I played they added a rogue lite mode. "Just kill randomly selected NPCs on existing maps" doesn't sound mind blowing (and occasionally a level feels kind of trivial), but the "die and they're on alert, die again and start over without your gear" format combined with limited access to gear really does give a fresh, high stakes feel.

- Comment on This console generation seems skippable 10 months ago:
An SSD on PC is definitely a step up from anything before this gen.
This gen (at least PS5, which leans hard into the tech with hardware decompression on top of the silly raw speed of the drives) is better than PC, though (for now). The hardware you're buying now can do pretty much everything the PS5 hardware can, but because the software stack to use it isn't the same and universal, there's definitely more loads. It's similar to how PS4 games load fast (especially compared to on the actual PS4), but get blown out of the water by PS5 games. I die in Horizon: Zero Dawn, it's 5-10 seconds. Which is fine. But I die in Forbidden West, which is prettier and has more complexity (mechanically and the environment) and it's maybe a second.
- Comment on This console generation seems skippable 10 months ago:
It's worth it just for my PS4 library not punishing me with a ten minute wait every time I die. The loading entirely changes the experience and enables punishing gameplay to be far less frustrating, in the same way Celeste can have harder sequences and be less annoying than something like Mario at the same time.
But the controller features are insane as well.
- Comment on What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on? 10 months ago:
I had a lot of games on PS4 where the difficulty isn't "why" I stopped, but the lengthy loads when I died was.
I'm perfectly happy dying a bunch of times in a row, provided the deaths are fair and consistent. I have a big issue with waiting 5-10 minutes to replay a section that doesn't last meaningfully longer than that.
Getting a PS5 let me go back to a lot of those games and properly enjoy the brutal difficulty without the headaches.
- Comment on Why do some websites have a "Continue Reading" button? 10 months ago:
I definitely scroll for web pages, but my ebook reader apps all give the option to do scrolling and I can't stand anything but pages for a book, so I get it.
(I do do most of my reading on eInk, so obviously scrolling wouldn't work there. But I don't do it exclusively. I read some on my phone and iPad as well and scrolling books feels awful.)

You'd think if it was they'd be pointing to that.
As far as I'm concerned "you must have parental consent until 18" is perfectly legitimate, because you can't really sign contracts or fully legally consent until then.
- Comment on Social media lobby group sues US State for protecting children from Meta, TikTok and Snapchat 10 months ago:
I absolutely agree, but "you need parental consent to have an account" doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I definitely miss parts of that.
The connectivity of the modern world has a lot of benefits, but it's also a pain in the dick.

Definitely a legit way to make great coffee. I don't usually have the 10 minutes it takes not to scorch it in the morning, but I do bring it camping and on vacation.
- Comment on This is way too expensive for a drink. 10 months ago:
Starbucks isn't great espresso, but there's a reason espresso drinks cost what they do. There's a lot more labor, a genuinely obscenely expensive machine, or both involved in making it in a shop like that.
I'm perfectly fine with a cheap machine at home, but it just doesn't work in a coffee shop.

Imagine thinking the fact that people will show up at a property to threaten you is something that might affect a real estate purchase.
- Comment on Warranty question about SSD upgrade 11 months ago:
I would keep it. Even if they accept the warranty, you have a good chance of not getting your SSD back. Are you really going to sell it for enough to be worth it?
You can probably use it somewhere else, though. I don't think they care if it has the right image, and if they do you could re-install it, or dump enough games to clone the drive back.
- Comment on Am I doing HDR wrong? 11 months ago:
Someone else said the actual OLED doesn't support it. I never paid attention because I talked myself out of needing one, but if that's the case you obviously wouldn't see it on the deck screen.
I think you'd run into the limitations of render quality for most stuff 3D, though. There might be 2D games that play with it, and I'm guessing there are demo videos. I know my first (non-HDR) OLED I enjoyed trying some OLED demo clips out to really see what it could do.
- Comment on Am I doing HDR wrong? 11 months ago:
HDR stands for high dynamic range. It means you can have detail in shadows and highlights without losing detail in the middle.
At the end of the day, it's just how your computer or console talks to the display. It doesn't change what your display is capable of. It can't magically make colors more vibrant, for example. What it does instead, with a quality display, is allow you to make specific colors more vibrant while keeping their detail, without losing it elsewhere. It should usually be subtle, except in specific showcases designed to push the edges of what HDR can do.
It also doesn't make a mediocre display not mediocre. If it can't accurately present the whole range, receiving it doesn't help a lot.
- Comment on OLED is nice and all, but the upgrade I really want is this. 11 months ago:
Yeah, I do recognize that a few games support it, and that if you allow remapping broad enough there are other ways to provide the functionality. But it feels so damn natural I'd consider the game unplayable with it.
Overall I agree with you on the game, too. I'll probably try again at some point, but I don't really find the world or enemies satisfying. And while handling the guns is awesome, the actual gunplay wasn't. The strongest point was definitely the use of the controller, which should enhance a game, not carry it.
- Comment on OLED is nice and all, but the upgrade I really want is this. 11 months ago:
I'm honestly confused by stuff like returnal having PC ports. I can't imagine it being properly playable without the feedback on the trigger pull from the PS5 controllers.
Sony's two "gimmicks" were two of the most exciting things to happen to gaming in a long time as soon as the announced them to me (the other being the combination of architecture to make loading effectively immediate. PS4 games load way faster than on PS4, but PS5 games are silly, and it unlocks gameplay you couldn't do without it).
I did wait until the library built out and only just recently pulled the trigger, and it's more impressive than I expected. Of course, I spend a lot of my time playing last gen stuff now that I'm not hampered by ten minutes of loading every time I'm less than perfect on the difficulty cranked up where I like it, so patience wasn't needed, but whatever. It's a nice piece of tech though.

The PS5 controllers' are amazing.
Everything else (or games that don't use them) feels like shit after. So I get this request.

I get that it's a big game that could easily be the ECF matchup, but it's November.
A coach trying to keep Giannis from demanding to play every minute is probably a good thing. You're playing for a championship, not a regular season win.

I really liked the Smart for Porzingis move. I think that's a big upgrade.
I hate this. I wouldn't have done Rob straight up (ignoring salaries). Holliday is good, and Rob has health concerns. But Rob is electric the way he uses his length on defense, has good tools between his verticality at the rim and fantastic vision and passing anywhere on the court, and should have been a core piece for a while.

I would have had less than no interest in just Rob for him (cap matching rules aside).

Not making them real technicals is the reason the rule is toothless.
Assess any missed ones after every game. Rescind any you need to. Kick players who get repeatedly caught out.
Then maybe it might stop. But no chance with your bullshit fake technical.
