The Narcissist’s Prayer
That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.
- Comment on How is it possible that Bungie didn't get in real legal trouble due to all that "vaulting" bullshit during Destiny 2? 1 week ago:
It’s a perpetual license for your copy of the game. That’s why it’s a license because otherwise you would be buying the game, not just a copy.
It’s just like buying music on CD. You’re only buying a licensed copy.
The big question with this stuff is what would happen if Bungie or any other ‘live-service’ game company were taken to court over their licensing. Bungie has no subscription, everything is a one time purchase and there is no expiration date for the software license sold. In theory they should get destroyed in court but ehhh… capitalism so who knows.
Here’s a great video from the guy that started Stop Killing Games that explains it better than me.

How could Balatro be seen as gambling? It’s a game you purchase once with no DLC or microtransactions and there’s no gambling in the game.

Depends what you mean by playable.
Take Forza Horizon 4 for example. I think many people who have played that would consider the ability to collect all the cars a requirement for it to remain in a playable state. If you run it in offline mode though you can’t access the Forzathon shop, Backstage pass and weekly seasonal events that you need to buy many of them.
- Comment on 60% of PC gamers have no plans to build a new PC in the next two years — AI pricing crunch on RAM and other components paralyze enthusiast market 2 weeks ago:
If we assume that PC gamers on average build a new PC every 5 years then each year 20% will build a new PC meaning over 2 years 40% will build a new PC therefor 60% not building one in 2 years is exactly as expected.

Also, they don’t really do proper adult games like Elden Ring. If you love Zelda I understand but it’s time to move on.
In the context of the first sentence, the second sentence seems to imply that Zelda isn’t for “proper adults”. Even if it wasn’t meant like that (I can’t see how else it can be meant), who is OP to tell people to “move on”.

That was also the only factual assertion I made. I posited a guess afterwards, and drew potential conclusions afterwards.
Yes, uncharitable guesses that were unwarranted and amounted to a strawman.
I’ll spell it out real simple for you since you seem to need that…
it sounds like you’re not boycotting Steam’s
I never said I was boycotting either Denuvo or Steam. You’re trying to imply here that I have a contradiction in my argument but I don’t. The only thing I said was they’re both bad.
so long as it can be circumvented, you don’t especially care, right?
Trying to reinforce your own strawman with more assumptions in a transparent attempt to make me seem a hypocrite.
For the purposes of the argument, circumvention and performance are two very distinct concerns.
This wasn’t mentioned in my comment thread at all until you brought it up and even then it’s only in the context of your strawman.
If it can be shown that Steam DRM also affects performance, what would be your opinion then?
As I said before numerous times, I think Steam DRM is bad. Whether or not it affects performance wouldn’t change my opinion. This isn’t the gotcha you seem to think it is.
Here, educate yourself about informal fallacies.

You said they’re both “bad”
This is the only true thing you said. Everything else is your assumptions that you argue against as a strawman.
The arguments I’ve made here stand on their own and I’m not going to jump through hoops to try to pass your manipulative and extremely transparent purity test.
- Comment on Pragmata surpasses 1m copies sold in just two days 5 weeks ago:
It’s not. If “That game has denuvo so I won’t buy it because I hate DRM” if a stance you have, you should also not buy it because of Steam’s DRM. Otherwise you’re not true to your own word and therefore unbelievable.
Strawman fallacy. You’re arguing against something I didn’t say. I did in fact say “They’re both DRM, they’re both bad.”.
As surprising as it may be for you, it’s possible to be against both anti-cheat and DRM, which I am. You’re the one here defending Denuvo and trying to minimise other people’s opinions on it.
I won’t be replying anymore as you’re clearly not here in good faith.

You can own your games on Steam too. It is entirely up to the publisher/developer. Cyperpunk 2077 for instance has no DRM on Steam and can be played without it.

- Comment on Pragmata surpasses 1m copies sold in just two days 5 weeks ago:
I get that people don’t like the thought of “I’m not fully owning my game” which is reasonable, but in that case, your reason for not playing pargmata shouldn’t be denuvo, but steam itself.
This is whataboutism. They’re both DRM, they’re both bad. I should point out though that it is up to the developer/publisher whether they use Steam DRM. There are games on Steam that you can play the game without Steam (Cyberpunk 2077 for example).

If you are in favour of any kind of DRM then you are arguing against your own interests as a purchaser of games.

I only like arcade racers and I love Forza Horizon. The online components of entering races with other players you can totally ignore. The open world events (Forzathon if it’ll still be called that) are pretty fun and collaborative rather than competitive.
If you like having a wide variety of cars to drive, a bunch of different race types (road, street, dirt and cross country racing) and great looking scenery then it’ll definitely appeal to you IMO. There’s also open world stuff like danger signs (stunt jumps), drift zones and speed traps/zones which I think are pretty fun and a nice break from races.
It plays great with a controller, all you need is accelerate/brake/turn/handbrake and you can complete most content (maybe not drift zones).
FYI if it’s like FH4/5 it defaults to online but there’s no need to turn it off as other players can’t get in your way and there’s not that many people on each map anyway.
