Retch, meaning to vomit, is still a word in use nowadays, just infrequently. As the other poster said, it’s definitely a spelling error.

It’s a license to own a copy of the game because you’re not buying the actual game.
A license is ownership. That’s how all software has always worked, same as music and movies.
What remains to be seen is if courts will enforce the ownership in the light of the anti-consumer practices by publishers and developers removing people’s access to that which they have purchased.
This is a great video explaining everything from the guy who started Stop Killing Games.

The person above me said a majority voted for it and I corrected them. I’m not sure what relevance you comment has to our exchange.
“Of the people who didn’t bother to make a choice at all, maybe most of those didn’t want this” is not a compelling argument.
It’s just as well I didn’t make that argument then. I don’t appreciate being strawmanned.

All the prices went up.
Also, 77m voted for Trump which is 32% of the voting age population.
As a percentage of the overall population it is ~23%.
That’s not a majority.
- Comment on Lazy weekend with my Switch Lite and Octopath Traveler 3 weeks ago:
I haven’t played any earlier ones as they’re a bit old for my tastes. I’ve completed Ys VIII and played some of Ys IX but couldn’t say much about it. When I searched the same question before I started, the consensus seemed to be start with Ys VIII then Ys IX. The games aren’t in chronological order though so just play what seems interesting.
The newer one, Ys X Nordics, I also haven’t played due to the controversy surrounding it (they released it in Oct 2024 then a couple of months later announced a different version that was released in Feb 2026 with more content and QOL added - if you wanted the update you had to buy the whole game again!).

Can’t say I have a favourite one to play as when I finish one I rarely go back. My favourites that I’ve played so far are Dragon Quest XI, Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana and Ruined King.

I reckon they’ll be fine. Crate seems to be a very well run studio that so far (for 18 years) makes pretty sensible decisions.

This is actually the last expansion for it.
They have said they’re doing Grim Dawn 2 but it’ll be quite a few years until it’s out (like 2030+). They’re working on an RTS set in Cairn (the setting of Grim Dawn) which they’ve developed their own engine for. While working on that they got the itch to do one last expansion for Grim Dawn. Once the RTS is done they’ll fork the engine to make Grim Dawn 2.
This is from an interview that Chris Wilson (of PoE fame) did with Arthur Bruno (CEO of Crate Entertainment who make Grim Dawn).

once they’re on GoG they’re essentially free.
Unlike all the ones on Steam that never get pirated? Steam DRM is so easy to bypass it may as well not exist. Also, unlike GoG, you can add your pirated game to Steam and play multiplayer.
There’s no way Steam don’t know this is happening which means there’s no way it’s not intended (especially given Gaben’s stance on piracy).

Other stores have DRM free games too. For example Cyberpunk 2077 is DRM free on Steam. DRM, for the most part, is forced by publishers rather than stores.

Every single response here says to play it… WTF are you on about?
- Comment on Contemplating on playing a controversial developer's bought game 5 weeks ago:
Yeah, you’re gonna have to go with battlenet for that for mods or pvp. At least it’s an actual good game that Blizzard made and they haven’t ruined it!
I have a complete boycott on all things Blizzard too but I wouldn’t feel bad about playing SC2. I would feel bad for playing WoW, D4 or Overwatch as those have many scummy practices and I’d feel like I was supporting them.
- Comment on Contemplating on playing a controversial developer's bought game 5 weeks ago:
If it’s Diablo 2/3, Warcraft 1/2/3 or Starcraft 1/2 you can get those through other means. If it’s World of Warcraft there are private servers. Only Overwatch and Diablo 4 would strictly need to use battlenet.

It’s funny how people flip flop between game pass causing bad sales, and game pass being a gigantic flop that no one pays for, depending on the point they want to prove.
I assume you have previous comments of mine about Gamepass to prove your point? If not (which is the case), then this just seems like a weak whataboutism.
Reviews mean nothing if the game doesn’t sell. It flopped. Microsoft wouldn’t gut a studio that made a successful game.
Well, that’s where the point about Gamepass comes in. People would play it there in lieu of purchasing it. Hence my use of the word sabotage.
That all said, I don’t expect you’ll understand this. Your comment history reads like you’re trying to win a Defender of the Status Quo and Capitalism award.

87% positive reviews on Steam doesn’t seem like a flop to me.
Unless you mean overall sales… but in that case iD was completely sabotaged by Microsoft’s Gamepass.

Any media you buy is a license because you’re only buying a copy, not the original.
Watch this by the guy who started Stop Killing Games. Then you can stop parroting the corporate wet dream that we don’t own stuff we buy.

Many games are DRM free on Steam too. Cyberpunk 2077 for example. The Steam DRM is at the publisher/developer’s discretion, not Steam’s.
Steam DRM itself is trivially bypassed which is surely intended.

That’s just not true. Inform yourself to save future embarrassment.
You are confusing licensing and terms of service.
- Comment on EU Commission meets behind closed doors with Ubisoft, other corporations, and exhibits blatant corruption. 2 months ago:
This is not true. Don’t spread this false “you don’t own your games” narrative.
You buy a perpetual license for a copy of the game. It’s called a license because you are not buying the actual game but a copy. It’s exactly the same way other software works as well as music and other media.
The whole point of SKG is that we do own our games but publishers are trying to act otherwise.
Here, Ross who started SKG explains it better.
