  You are held responsible, that’s how it works in lots of (maybe most) places. If you are drunk driving while leaving a bar though, the bartender is also held liable for over-serving you and/or allowing you to drive.

  Because addiction is incredibly hard to overcome and just because someone has become addicted to something does not mean they are worth less than anyone else. This is like suggesting that if you get in a car accident and sustain severe injuries, and the doctor says you’ll likely never walk again, but you try every day and eventually regain the ability to walk, it should not be celebrated. You made the decision to get into a car knowing its potential consequences, did you not? Who cares if you made a bad choice and overcame the odds?

  Are you suggesting that just because someone made a choice that affected their life poorly that they should not be encouraged to heal and live a healthier lifestyle? If so, that seems pretty cruel and hypocritical to me. I’m sure you’ve had to recover from a poor choice you made at one point in your life.

  Sometimes that’s true, someone gets curious and tries a drug, then gets hooked. But you’re making a lot of assumptions here.

  First, who says they chose to try the drug? Back to the car accident example, lets imagine a person gets severely injured and the emergency room doctor administers an opiate for the pain. Suppose that this person is unaware that they are already genetically prone to addiction (this just means they’re more likely to get hooked on a thing than others may be) and that first hit or prescription that the doctor gives them is all it takes to become addicted. Now they’ve got to go through the rest of their life trying to avoid a relatively easy to get substance that creates urges likely more powerful than anything you have ever felt before, other than maybe hunger or thirst.

  Secondly, you’re assuming they know the consequences. Not everyone is so educated. Some people have drugs pushed on them when they’re still kids or teenagers when they either don’t know any better or, their still undeveloped brains don’t quite comprehend the idea of long-term consequences. Do these people (or any people, for that matter) deserve to live with consequences they either didn’t know about, didn’t understand, didn’t foresee, or didn’t have an actual choice in? Even if you do decide they “deserve” these consequences, is no one who makes a mistake allowed to want something better for themselves? Should people stop having their own emotions and desiring a better future just because you look down on them?

  Also, who says they made the choice to use a particular addictive drug? Maybe they went to a party and wanted to smoke some marijuana, which is relatively harmless and much easier to quit if one finds themselves using it too much. They have a joint passed to them, smells like pot, they take a hit, and now they find it’s been laced with some other drug. What if they liked it a lot and now they’re seeking out something they didn’t even choose to try in the first place.

  Aside from what I talked about above regarding how one may be administered drugs without being given a choice in the matter, who are you or anyone else to decided what someone is “supposed to” do? Is your way to live the only way one should live? Is your method of decision making infallible and the only method that should be used?

  What if I say you’re not “supposed” to talk out of your ass about topics of which you clearly know very little? My belief about how one is “supposed to” act has clearly not stopped you but you’ve put yourself in this position and now have the foreseeable consequence of having to read a reply like this one.

  If one day you change your mind and decide maybe you don’t have enough information to draw judgement on tens of millions of people you’ve never met, I believe you should be “celebrated [for having] rectified a very wrong choice”.

  I sincerely hope you never have to deal with anything like addiction.

  idk about your county jail but I’m pretty sure ours is either full, privatized in some way, or both.

  There’s no way a for-profit prison is giving away real estate for free. Instead they’ll attempt to incentivize sending more people prison so they keep their cells full and are able to achieve that coveted capitalist “growth”.

  The internet does not mean “wires” any more than electricity means “wires”. It may use wires in places, but that does not define the concept.

  Internet is just an interconnected network of computers. The connections between those computers can be wired with copper, wireless over radio, or they can use light through fiber optic cabling made of glass. The internet is about the concept of getting disparate / discrete machines to communicate, wires are just one of the tools it can use to do that.

  I haven’t had an issue with this at all. I’d say over 50% of the time, if I communicate with other players that I don’t intend to kill them, we end up working together.

  That’s a fair take, I’m just not sure that’s what op means. Perhaps I am wrong. My mind just files gaming videos separately from “reaction videos”, I think because the gamer is actively taking part in the game, rather than reacting to what someone else has already recorded and posted.

  If the gamer is just watching someone else play a game and reacting to that, then it would fall into my idea of a reaction video.

  Idk if watching someone play a game counts as a “reaction” video. In my mind a reaction video is a video that shows someone watching a YouTube video that you probably don’t even get to see unless you go watch that video on your own.

  lol that is very specific and I can imagine it’s hard to be qualified for. I’m just out for basic IT. I can sys admin, or work the help desk. I’ve got an A+ and Network+ certificate and a decade of customer service experience on top of a management degree. It just isn’t enough without a least two years of experience it seems.

  I actually fit all of those criteria, except that I am looking for entry level IT jobs.

  I don’t use AI for my resume or cover letter, my last two jobs each lasted 5 years. I was an accountant (not super specialized, though, just basic book keeping) for a bookstore at a major university and did a lot of unofficial tech support for them. Before that I was a bartender and a waiter. I’ve had tons of other jobs, but I figured 10 years of solid employment history was enough.

  I’ve also got a bachelor’s degree in management and recent A+ and Network+ certificates. I’m working on various IT related projects in my spare time, etc. Is it really just because I’m seeking entry level positions? I’m even applying to “entry level” stuff but they all want two years of experience somehow. I don’t understand why people aren’t allowed to be new at things, even when they’ve got certifications saying they’re qualified.

  It’s getting very frustrating out here lol
