- Comment on Why isn't the rest of the world doing anything about the USA? 1 week ago:
Also the USA has nukes. No one’s going to invade us, because doing so would be a destructive act, and the final order of any armed state is to nuke its attackers. This is the same reason North Korea gets to remain its defiant self when their army could be obliterated in a few bombing runs. This isn’t even counting all the non-nuclear weaponry we have. Think of that annual budget of hundreds of billions of dollars in military spending that keeps getting raised every year…

Microsoft can revoke service for any reason, so it’s legal. Yes, this is exactly how it is done internally. The only way to bypass Mojang’s blocking is to run a “Cracked” server, where accounts are never checked, but in that system anyone can log on as any name.)

The chat message verification is the Chat Reporting system, which can be required on servers. That’s a whole rabbit hole to go down. TL;DR you can get banned from Minecraft if your messages get reported. (Use the NoChatReports mod like everyone does)

I’ve seen peaceful protestors in the USA, UK and Germany get charged as rioters and terrorists for opposing the Israeli genocide against Palestinians. Also, the media lost its shit at criticism of Charlie Kirk. cronenthal’s argument absolutely holds water.

No, but, we’re not in control of the standards here. This is how every censorship process goes. It’s “For the Children” or it’s about stopping Nazis, and then when the system’s established and normalized, they creep it towards oppression and suppression. How people are supporting this with everything else we see in 2025 is beyond me. Palestine Action. Kimmel. Kirk.
Reminder: The UK implemented Real ID-verification as a requirement to see porn. On Day 2, it was blocking the Russian-Ukraine war and Israeli genocide in Palestine – two topics I’d say UK leadership is on the wrong side of. Just last September, Microsoft figurehead Bill Gates was singing praises to Donald Trump and Gates owns stake in companies executing Trump’s deportations.

I’m glad someone else sees it. I’m very unsettled by the widespread support for corporation-determined censorship on servers Microsoft doesn’t even pay for. Did we forget Jimmy Kimmel? Do you not know of the “Chat Reports” feature??
- Comment on The oldest Minecraft server, MinecraftOnline, is being shut down by Microsoft 1 week ago:
but do we? Microsoft is absolutely a mega-corp and would not hesitate to screw over people for money. If you’re anti-bigoty, don’t assume they’re your friend. Maybe someone “insulted” Charlie Kirk, or said that ICE are Nazis. Remember Jimmy Kimmel? I get your sarcasm in your original post, but I think you’re making an assumption that corporations are in the right when they take down speech, when they’d just as quickly shut down a trans-supportive group as they would a transphobic group.

Minecraft servers are a unique case because they are hosted by the owners. Microsoft/Mojang does not host online servers; they just host the authentication server that the client pings to check the connecting account UUID (and pull the skin file). The whole way Mojang “bans” servers is by marking certain IPs to always be told the connecting account is invalid. Either way, server costs are paid by the owner. I recommend you look into Minecraft specifically because the model has its quirks.
Personally I agree with the MC servers here purely because of that fact. Also, Mojang/Microsoft should be seen as an enemy of the common people for many reasons - including their Copilot AI. If the Chat Reports feature (where purchased accounts are neutered because of automated chat reports) isn’t reason enough to dislike Microsoft, consider the following: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Can we talk about the second half where the guy’s proclaiming the benefit that when legislators miss sessions, the AI can tell them what they missed, and how they should respond??? Sounds wonderful. Let’s have our legislators getting orders from miss Edi Rama’s 83 slop-goblins.

One minute ago I was mourning and feeling lost about the world. I open Lemmy and: 83 AI kids. This has been the entire last year: bouncing between feeling lost in life and feeling baffled by the stupidity of life. Our government AI minister is pregnant with 83 kids.

“Isn’t running America” jfc millions of dollars was spent for a sick slow-rolling display of his delusions of prowess in Kennywood. He got his own prime-time TV show. His fame and existence is a testament to the gullibility of the USA population.

I find these articles so irritating. They sound so tone-deaf, throwing around clinical terms to say people are sad, while refusing to even consider any solutions.
I wish they’d stop all this “mental health” fluff that is just toxic positivity or a call for it; but if the people were talking amongst themselves instead of in 1-on-1 counseling, they people might go from “I’m feeling sad” to “this world makes us sad” and change things!! oohohooooo so scary!! :O

I was a shut-in before the 2024 Election. I figured social spaces there were somewhat immature because the mature people would have jobs and real life involvement. Then I started going outside, and I lost all hope. I’m too stupid for people to be this dumb. (Though I’ll admit, social media, algorithmic content, and the AI products probably made people dumber.)

Stanford Prison Experiment. Slavery. Lynch mobs. Segregationists. Anti-Feminists. Prison-Industrial Complex. The majority of the country voting for the leader passing out signs that said “MASS DEPORTATIONS”. Maybe there’s some inherent cruelty to the mainland USA. Maybe there’s still too much lead particles in the air. As someone who has never left the mainland, I’ve seen overwhelming evidence to the “non-empathetic” side. Or, perhaps, the majority of people are passive, and cruelty is most capable of spurring people to action.

what’s that? Nintendo’s supporting the Department of Homeland Security? I’m enraged. These woke devs putting politics in our games! I’m never buying another Nintendo product again! (If enough of us say it, maybe we can pressure Nintendo to sue?)
