The Punks took their name from punks.
Punk Rock is rock for punks, and it became a term of pride in shared identity, the way redneck is to some people.
There were still some who hold on to the old ways and used it to describe contemptible and aggressive individuals. That’s what NWA is doing with that lyric. It’s especially stinging as the song was recorded in 1987 where that is the language the authorities would have used to describe young Black people like the members of NWA when they were literally just living their lives.
Both are extremely based and had similar vibes: the Punks claiming it for themselves and NWA turning the language of the oppressor back on them.

You don’t need to feel bad about throwing them out but you may also find takers at a local historical society or municipal archive. Photos are especially attractive to these groups if they have streetscapes, technology, vehicles etc.

- Comment on If the mist settles over Lake Ashi at Hakone, does the reflection of Mount Fuji in the water happen at the same depth as the mountain’s actual height, or does the water level dictate the scale? 2 weeks ago:
Reflections are light bouncing off the surface of the water, so it’s more to do with angle (which is influenced by distance)
ranchocordovaarts.org/art-tips/water-reflections
The object and its reflection will have an identical height only if your direction of view is nearly parallel to the water surface.
In your example, the photographer is in a position where the two are equal. The characteristics of the water are not relevant.

I was so annoyed when I went to a midnight release of Fallout 4, stood in line with loud teenagers, got my disk, got home, and there was a fucking code in it.
(No hate on the teens having a nice time with their friends, but I would not have entered their space if I knew there was no benefit).
- Comment on How do you distance yourself from your country when it doesn't represent your views anymore so you won't be viewed by the rest of the world as part of the problem? 3 weeks ago:
Don’t take up space online defending yourself as “one of the good ones”, or saying not all people from your country are like that.
Don’t take up space online replying to content critical of your country by saying how ashamed you are to be from your country, or how sorry you are.
Strangers online don’t know you. If you truly believe you are not part of the problem you should be able to rationalize negative comments about people in your country as generalizations and/or venting and therefore not directed at you personally. There is no need to correct them. There is no need to make sure they know you are not part of the problem. That does not help them, it only helps you. Let it go, stay out of it, move on.

Where I live
Sorry they don’t teach us about ass backwards tax systems at school 🤷♀️
- Comment on 4 weeks ago:
Where I live, taxes are in the assessed value, which isn’t the same as the market value. The assessed value compares your house to other, similar houses. Your assessment is unlikely to go up unless you improve it. Or your house is much nicer than the newer houses that are being built.
Property taxes that the total cost of running the municipality and divide that proportionally between all the tax payers, and proportional to the assessed value.
Raising property taxes is unpopular, so some municipalities will raise them insufficiently to find next year’s projected costs, and cuts will need to be made.
So no, not directly. Businesses are sometimes given tax breaks to set up shop at a specific location, but I don’t think extending that to residences would bring any benefit.

It was like 22 years ago that it came to light that the US and Britain lied about Iraq stockpiling WMD so they could invade Iraq. The US had been trying to find an excuse for a little while. It is maddening that GW Bush was able to rehab his image to folksy grandpa from blood thirsty war criminal.
It sure felt like there was more resistance from the public for that than for what Trump is doing now. There is a reason the education system has been allowed to go to shit and people are kept distracted with the red vs blue instead of seeing what every US administration has done on behalf of the american people.

The following is extremely simplified. You might also want to learn about 20th century treaties because I think those are critical to understanding the conflicts in east Asia.
Vietnam/Cambodia: proxy war between USSR and the US. Conflict originated from colonialism (see: French Indochina). Japan occupied the region towards the end of WW2 and when they surrendered the Việt Minh (communist) declared independence and opposed the return to French rule. France was like, hell naw and you get the First Indochina war. That ended with the country split into north and south (at the 17th parallel). The French, the USSR and China supported the split and convinced the North Vietnamese to accept. The US and the South Koreans did not agree. France left the conflict at this point and I guess that is why the Vietnam war was a new war 🤷♀️
Korea: Korea had been occupied by Japan since 1910. When the USSR and US defeated Japan they just kind of split the country in half, each responsible for administering a side until things settled down and they could have elections. As far as I understand there was no intent to colonize the old fashioned way, but this was also a proxy war so…
Desert storm: the popular answer is going to be oil but I think it’s important to understand the impact the cold war had on this part of Asia too. I am way less familiar with these wars but the wiki article on the Cold War in Asia looks pretty promising.
Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory: This was bombed because of suspected ties to al-Qaeda. The US was in conflict with al-Qaeda at the time in retaliation for the embassy bombings. Again, this is all linked back to the Soviet-Afghan war.
Afghanistan the first time (?): do you mean 2001? The US decided the al-Qaeda was behind the attacks and that the Taliban was helping them. The Taliban was the government of Afghanistan. The US attacked them because they did not hand over bin Laden.
Iraq the second time: Oil. The Gulf war was never resolved. Regime change was the stated policy of the US since 1998. Bombing happened right after that (with the UK helping), but 9/11 gave them to excuse they needed to actually invade.
Iran: we’ve come full circle to the proxy wars again. Maybe that’s a stretch but there is a shift in who the “world powers” are and I think that’s raising the stakes in a conflict that is otherwise probably mostly about oil. Way back in the 1950s the Iranian government nationalized the oil industry so the US/UK supported a coup d’état which gave the shah (hereditary ruler) more power. The Iranian revolution replaced the shah with the Islamic Republic. Iran and the US have been in indirect conflict in the region since then basically. There are pro and anti Western groups in the middle east and it comes down to access to oil. Why now? Israel asked. Iran and Israel are enemies and the US has interest in regime change.

- Comment on Not looking for how to meth. But is not a moonshiners still about as dangerous as a meth house exploding? What the difference? 3 months ago:
Not an expert but I am a chemical engineer and that means everyone thinks I know how to make meth.
I think the main reason is that fires in stills are self limiting. The process is creating the fuel (ethanol vapours) and once the still goes boom it’s not creating more vapor. So explosion, but no ongoing fire.
Chem lab fires come from the reagents, like red phosphorus and lithium metal. So you have stashes of this stuff sitting around so if it catches fire the fire has lots of fuel.

Importantly other countries aren’t that mad about it either. I saw some posts about Trump making comments that seemed to suggest that mexico and canada could be targeted in the future for intervention related to drugs, so I went to canadian news sites to see what was up. The canadian government is basically like, “I’m not angry, I’m disappointed” and mostly because it goes against the norms of polite imperialism.
