No, they are an alliance for defense. Nothing peaceful about it, they will fuck you up with military force if you mess with any one of their member states.
- Comment on Chad NATO 15 hours ago:
NATO doesn’t really do much other than scare Russia and China. There were a couple of debatable interventions in Europe, and the US did demand everyone join them in Afghanistan, but not Iraq, for example. NATO doesn’t just automatically go where America goes. They have actual rules that have to be cited, like Article 5.

Been 10 years of satirists saying “satire is dead”, would be nice for someone to actually try again for a change.

When you develop a knee-jerk reaction to phrases like “Chinese propaganda” and “Russian propaganda”, you really open yourself up to being manipulated by them.
- Comment on Public transit in Chengdu, China versus Toronto, Canada 2 weeks ago:
No, they do, the big difference is that they’ll be voted out and replaced by someone else from the same party.
Because there’s only one party.
- Comment on Public transit in Chengdu, China versus Toronto, Canada 2 weeks ago:
There’s loads of countries and cities around the world with better public transit than Toronto.
Plenty with democratic elections and freedom of expression too.
Only one reason someone would pick China over anywhere else.

When my brother was half-awake after raising a baby, he was at the liquor store with his friend to buy a bottle of wine, and the guy at the counter asked “…your ID?” and he heard “Are you ready?” so he just said “Ready for what?” “Your ID!” “Yes I am ready! Let’s go!”
Other guy had to step in and say “he’s very tired, just had a baby”.

Because US DMCA law has provisions in it about copyright circumvention. Same thing led to the “you can’t repair your own John Deere tractor” debacle.

Upon further investigation, it appears that only SOME species of fireflies are at risk of extinction. Others are so common they are of “least concern”.
If foreign propaganda bots are bombarding us with doomer memes to instill apathy and depression in the younger generation, this fits.

Wikipedia says the species near me (southern Ontario) are of Least Concern for extinction:

I don’t understand how Reddit is still alive when they’ve made it impossible for regular human beings to post to it.
The only people willing to go through the effort anymore are the people being paid to.

Yeah but also, Whole Foods and Amazon and other companies absolutely are doing this. They’d be stupid not to. The companies that aren’t paying for spam bots online will go out of business soon.

It’s the LONGEST song ever. Folks were like “Hey Leonard, this song is great!” and he took that to mean “I should write some more verses”.
There is no setting where it is appropriate to play the entire full length song.

Why not? They were fixing Windows XP remote-execution exploits all the way up to 2017.
And that stuff is only used to take down children’s hospitals, they don’t waste 0-day exploits on some rando’s home PC.

I used to make shunt resistors out of a pencil and a piece of paper. Rub pencil all over paper, cut strips to size of required resistance.
