That all sounds great :D I almost regret going with steam. Either way, GOG doesn’t have regional pricing for my area anyway.

Good pun, but i can’t help myself:
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/اسلام_آباد#Urdu
اسلام اباد in urdu, literally translates to “Islamic area”
The اسلام (Isla:m) part comes from… the arabic word, duh lol
The اباد (a:ba:d) part comes from the PIE root *peh₂-, descending from middle/classical persian and then urdu.
The root just means “to protect, ward or shepherd” which leaves a lot of room for interpretation. The persian words mean thriving/populous (so does urdu).
There are also many derived (and recognized) words from it: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/…/peh₂-#Derived_terms Is pretty interesting to look at.
Do not it’s not like i really know too much of what i’m talking about, i just love this stuff.

It’s happened to me before. It was a real account, too (i can’t remember the username but it was some ML account). I would’ve banned/reported them but i deleted my old account anyway in favor of this one.

Feels like a bit of a null question. Africa isn’t a monolith, there’s north/south/central/etc etc. A fully communist africa wouldn’t make sense at all, it would be like saying a communist europe. Which, europe’s a continent full of different countries, with ideological differences.
[Most] americans (westerners in general maybe? I don’t know how negative anti-capitalism was viewed as a result of the cold war beyond the US) would probably avoid it completely if it was socialist (which as of now, i don’t recall any leftist government in africa.)
Anyway, africa has been socialist before (at least, north africa). Afaik, under Gamal Abdel-nasser in Egypt with Nasserism (i have a mixed view of nasser, personally.) And Gaddafi with the Third international theory (yeah fuck this guy lmao) [north] africa was socialist. Both were dictators, unfortunately.
My views on nasser are mixed, since he was an anti-imperialist willing to stand up against western imperialism and wanted to unite arabs. But… he also turned egypt into a military dictatorship, putting their tentacles in everything. Make of that what you will, though.

They work better on lemmy, since fragmentation is pretty common.
I personally treat all crossposts the same, from the upvotes/comments etc

- Comment on Is it a common thing for people who have left authoritarian countries to still feel the fear of their now-former country? 2 months ago:
Absolutely. The british and french are absolutely to blame. They destroyed the entire middle east, and made us all suffer for their own convenience. Also, the Sykes-picot agreement.
(now there are four other arabs than me that i know on lemmy :DDD)

I see thanks. I assumed so since egypt followed a very similar timeline to you described (even the 21y reign of a murderous dictator lol)

Sorry i don’t have much to add, but if i had to guess, that country is egypt?
- Comment on Is it a common thing for people who have left authoritarian countries to still feel the fear of their now-former country? 2 months ago:
Sadly yes.
It’s actually worse than assassination for dissidents inside the country, it’s flat out public beheading.
But how common is it unless you’re a major regime critic?
Still common. Happened to someone i am vaguely related to, they tweeted to their [less than 10 followers] just criticism of the monarchy, and “disappeared”. Nobody ever saw them again. Later i saw a news article, of someone being executed and fitting their exact description. Fuck my life.
All they need is your real name and your comments, and it’s over.

I haven’t immigrated yet, but every time I leave my country by travelling, I feel terrified that somehow I’m being watched or someone will report on me. So I stay on my best behavior, and not break any religious laws.
Honestly, even if I leave (which I’m planning to) I don’t think I can ever feel or be safe. The gulf monarchies have boundless reach, and are practically omnipotent.
Maybe it’s just paranoia, maybe they’re not keeping a close eye on me. But I’m still afraid of messing up and losing my life.
