- Comment on Chinese firm a leading contender to buy Thames Water, reports say 1 hour ago:
Only interested if the gov takes on all the debt.
And forgive the outstanding fines.
So we’re paying a private company to buy our water utility, so that they can ‘have another go’ and ‘promise to do better than the last lot’.
Great…

Yes, you get thrown into the pit they threw Nicolas III into. Death by Tzar Chasm.
- Comment on Cyclist injuries dropped by half after “hated” cycle lane installed, but mayor still claims scrapped lane largely used as “bike run” for drug dealers to “get through traffic" 1 day ago:
or is some kind of schizoid aesthetic rejection where they just want bike-riding sissies to stop being a thing?
I am slightly depressed at how much it looks exactly like this.
Only thing I’d say is shopkeeps have a point about their footfall being affected by the lack of parking outside their shops now. Literally every other way to address that, besides nuking the site from orbit (the only way to be sure), is a better way to address that than just tearing up the bike lane.

They can’t now, they’ll get a ticket.

I mean, there are loads of other solutions to a lack of parking ffs. Look at all that green field, I wonder how many parking spaces they need. A car park would spoil their view would it? if that’s the issue, they could block their view of the car park by parking cars along the roadside in front of it. Oh no wait, they’d get a ticket for that.
But no no no, lets just jump at the opportunity to hate on cyclists because that’s the fun popular thing to do amongst meatheads, pick a group that’s already getting picked on and pick on them harder. Sounds like we have our own Alabama.

This should be it’s own criminal offence, a special form of perverting the course of justice that gets applied to the individuals concerned, not the company.
- Comment on Third of UK teenagers who vape will go on to start smoking, research shows 2 weeks ago:
a quick google tells me 9% of school goers vape, and about 3% smoke. That’s down from 0 vapers in the 90’s and 50% of them having had a smoke (not necessarily smokers).
also, amongst the whole of the UK, vapers have just met smokers at 11% each.
- Comment on Third of UK teenagers who vape will go on to start smoking, research shows 2 weeks ago:
Well at least that’s down from the 100% of teenasgers who smoked cigarettes that go on to start smoking.

actually, while it doesn’t change the conclusion hardly, we have all forgotten that 395k wage is a combined income.
I mean these are still silly high wages… Having said that though, both the combined income, and that it’s very conceivable a good portion of that income is from capital gains, not work… they probably get more take home out of that 395k income than we’d expect too…

I’m not sure there is actually a proper definition of ‘rich’ that would allow you to accurately classify a group of incomes into rich and not rich.
But if you were to think of it in terms of the ‘feeling’ I’d say I’d feel rich if I never had to choose a cheaper option for anything at all, ever, could eat out and check into a hotel for the night any time I liked, all whilst currently putting away a handsome investment of some kind - but still have more disposable income than I could possible waste between income periods with nothing but my own debauchery (barring expensive drug habits).
That’s what I call rich, thing is, some people can achieve this on much less than others due to their tastes and circumstances. I’d feel rich if I worked 9-5 and took home upwards of £300k for sure. Others might not though.

No, an attack on a member of our government, particularly the prime minister, is an attack on our entire nation.
(by ‘the’ reaction, I assume you mean mine)
That said, such an attack is never acceptable.
- Comment on Man arrested after fires at homes linked to PM 2 months ago:
This makes me really angry.
We’ve lost 2 MP’s in recent memory, I don’t care their leaning, they were murdered while in service to the people as a member of parliament. You wanna go for the prime minister? again, don’t care his political leaning, fuck you. Make an example of them.
