VacuumTube for anyone using a linux HTPC and wants a TV interface
I use it everyday and it works great 99% of the time and usually YouTube itself is to blame and the App gets an update a couple days later that fixes everything

I know exactly what you mean, felt the same way for me. I’ve started using qwant recently and I feel like it has better results. Still not quite as good as google is at the moment and nowhere as good as google used to be, but at the rate google is enshittifying its only a matter of time until qwant is better.

- Comment on The speed of light 5 weeks ago:
nope, the full relativistic energy relation is:
E^2^ = m^2^ c^4^ + p^2^ c^2^
p is the momentum and for a (massive) particle at rest the momentum p=0, taking the square root if both sides you get the more familiar:
E = m c^2^
Now a photon (and any other massless particle) can’t be at rest, it is forced to always travel at the speed of light and since it is massless m=0 and the energy becomes (again taking the square root):
E = p c
When a particle has both mass and isn’t at rest (but not traveling anywhere close to the speed of light) the E = m c^2^ is much, much larger than the E = p c part (ignoring that a square root isn’t linear {Hello Dirac}). Because the speed of light c is such a a huge number that squaring it makes it even bigger. It is usually fair to say that mass is ‘equivalent’ to energy, but it isn’t strictly true and actually false for massless particles (or particles traveling close to the speed of light [velocity v~c] -> p=m v~m c -> E = pc ~ m c^2^ , which has close to c^2^ in it).
So photons have energy, not because they have mass (where massive particles have most of their energy), but because they have momentum (p).
You bring up the theoretical black hole from photons, which are called ‘Kugelblitz’ black holes, iirc. They (theoretically could) exist, not because photons have some sort if mass, but because Spacetime curves because of Energy, not mass. Again, for most regular objects, the vast majority of its energy comes from its mass and the momentum doesn’t play a huge role. But for photons all.the energy comes from its momentum, since it doesn’t have any mass.

- Comment on Doug Bowser Retiring From Nintendo, Successor Announced 9 months ago:
I’m not sure if they’re concerned with Saturo Shibata directly, it’s just that under Reggie, Nintendo of America pushed hard for stuff like free Wii Sports and cheaper prices (which worked great, making the Wii a huge success), while the Nintendo Japan was of the opinion that nothing should ever be given away for free.
Under Bowser, Nintendo of America fell in line behind Japan. Culminating in stuff like the welcome tour for the Nintendo Switch 2, something that us just a tech demo of the device you just spent $400+ on, costing $10.
Having Saturo Shibata as CEO, it seems this will get worse, not better, since Nintendo Japan is excerting more control over NoA.

Just be advised that these came out in 2016 and were dog shit even then, but they are the cheapest. I’d say they’re not worth the 40+€ that is being asked for them, but you might find some cheapisch ones 2nd hand

Maybe they’re just buying these studios to acquire their IPs, code and artwork to train new AI’s on. Then close the studio, as you’ve acquired all its data and it serves no further purpose to them. Probably hoping to release full AAA-AI slop in the future. Don’t think it’ll work and they’ll waste enormous amounts of energy and resources before the AI bubble bursts and everyone realizes that current ‘AI’ (LLMs) will never become AGI.

No, not Proton, but the dxvk stuff works on Windows too. You just need to replace some .dll files
- Comment on Grand Theft Auto 4 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S reportedly in development, could release this year 1 year ago:
Well there is d9vk and dxvk which translates directX 9, 10 and 11 to Vulkan and vkd3d which translates direct3D (directX 12) to Vulkan. So it’s all Vulkan on the Linux side, Proton ‘just’ translates one of these into Vulkan or passes it through if the game is already Vulkan.
I don’t think there is a native (to GTA IV) Vulkan renderer in game though and therefore there isn’t anything more you can or have to do on Linux.
On Windows, some older games actually get performance improvements from the translation to Vulkan.
