to my knowledge, it’s the second one.

yeah it’s wild to me that petroleum jelly and kerosene come from the same thing
- Comment on Know thy enemy 2 weeks ago:
yeah from what people are telling me, we have the capability of processing lower quality crude oil so it makes more sense to export our high quality stuff, then buy the cheap stuff since we can already refine it.
- Comment on Know thy enemy 2 weeks ago:
dude. we are not talking about the gasoline. we are talking about the oil being used to make the gasoline. what percentage of the crude oil being refined into American gasoline is American produced crude oil?

- Comment on Know thy enemy 2 weeks ago:
yes but how much of that gasoline was made from American crude oil? America has plenty of refineries, just none of them designed for American oil
- Comment on Know thy enemy 2 weeks ago:
the government should at least subsidize a couple so in the event of an apocalypse we can make our own gasoline.
- Comment on Know thy enemy 2 weeks ago:
correct me if I’m wrong, but the United States doesn’t even have oil refineries that are capable of making gasoline out of American oil? like we need the type of oil that the middle East has, so we’re constantly trading oil back and forth even though we have plenty of it
I think I’ve heard this is true. something about politicians wanting to look environmentalist and therefore preventing the building of any more refineries

I didn’t say it didn’t eliminate the problem, I said it didn’t make the question in the back of my mind go away

when I’m checking them once a year, I do occasionally find corrosion before it becomes a problem, but I keep Energizer Lithium in all of my important things

you know I was expecting mostly what I got, people commiserating, people giving explanations for why they exist, people talking about how their flashlights don’t do that, but something genuinely useful, that I did not expect.l

no, surprisingly, Fleshlight has actually figured out how to make an on/off button.

I can’t remember the last time I had a flashlight that did that. I have one in my bedside drawer that’s been using the same battery for at least 6 years. and the other ones around the house, I just double check anytime a hurricane is supposed to be rolling in and they’ve always been fine

I’ve generally steered away from them because of price, but I do have their Maximus headlamp. I don’t remember spending almost $500 on it at the time, but it was pretty steep especially for not having a removable battery

Anker.
- Comment on why does every single flashlight have multiple settings that you have to scroll through? 5 weeks ago:
I don’t know how it is with four AAA, but I had an Anker that had the three AAA cassette, where it holds them all side by side. the cassette broke, and when I called asking for a replacement part, they told me they weren’t making that anymore so no more parts, but these three cell AAA cassette could be replaced with a single 18650

I do appreciate you taking the time to look though.
- Comment on why does every single flashlight have multiple settings that you have to scroll through? 5 weeks ago:
that’s what I was looking at. c-cell is kind of annoying, it’s the only one that I don’t have rechargeables laying around for, 18650 would be more convenient. but, mainly, the lumen output looks awfully low for a flashlight that size
- Comment on why does every single flashlight have multiple settings that you have to scroll through? 5 weeks ago:
oh man, they’re still offering incandescent models alongside their LEDs. none of them are really inspiring hope though, even the smaller LED lights seem to have pretty pitiful lumen output compared to what I’m seeing out there

I haven’t looked into maglite since proper LEDs priced them out of the market. I’ll take another look
