I think the difference is that they where build to be repairable. Back in the 70s and 80s a large screen tv was a status symbol, and a top end model could cost multiple months of salary and last 10 years or more.

- Comment on A cool feature/mechanic you want to see in games again 2 weeks ago:
No, it was more a turn based game with npcs, and you had to extract people, kill targets, or return objects from the map. By strategically placing mines on windows or doors you could take out enemies, and remove cover for other enemies, or accidentally start a chain reaction that would blow up other barrels nearby.
The downside was that the game was terrible slow, with what feels like 5seconds per npc to make a turn (even when they where not revealed yet), which is annoying with sometimes 20 npcs per map, who can take sometimes multiple rounds to finish if you are unlucky and miss. And any explosion that would destroy the environment would also bring even modern PCs to a grinding halt. The game was from 2003, but only runs on a single core.

Destructible environments like in silent storm. You could remove walls and floors with grenades or mines. Unfortunately it was a bit buggy and slow. Teardown is fun, but it feels like a tech demo.

You could probably just record the users ID an it’s IP address. IP addresses that see a lot of different user IDs are either VPNs, companies or universities.

Online ist dead. 5 mins in and I’m getting headshots from a guy across the map with a K:D of 3000:1. Everything online costs real money or endless grind. Waiting for 15 mins in a lobby, only that the host logs out 2 mins into the mission.

Then what’s the point? If I deliver some code that gets right maybe 4/10 then my boss would tell me to get fucked and never deployed. Yet when companies slap an “AI” sticker on the same bad results it its somehow worth billions and the next hot thing.
- Comment on The Gmail app will now create AI summaries whether you want them or not 6 months ago:
It’s absolutely not, because AI will just make up stuff, even if the email is just gibberish. I get assigned jira tasks where the manager tirs hist 8 word notes into a whole paragraph, except ai does not kow the context, problem or the product he is talking about and just generates some buzzword filler text that is 80% wrong.

But Al Bundy was constantly out of money. His paycheck went straight to Peg who wasted it on fashion, on herself and useless stuff. The children had to steal food because Peg or Al never cooked at home. At some point Al made a joke that life won’t get worse if they sue them for money, because he already has 2 mortgages on the house, his car is junk and he has no valuables and no savings to take away.

- Comment on Ubisoft revenues decline 31.4% to €990m 9 months ago:
Far cry feels just the same since 3. Same gameplay, different story, different setting. While the story itself is usually good, I don’t think it has progressed gameplay wise or in technical or graphics aspects in any meaningful way. Car physics are worse than gta5 which is already out for 10 years or so.

Afaik they started development when overwatch was already successful. By the time development finished the hype was over and players had moved to other genres, and had very little interest in an overwatch clone.
- Comment on Anon buys a TV without researching 11 months ago:
No, they are NOT tvs! The difference is that the display panels are to slow for fast action scenes or any kind of scene switch, that’s why they only show a set of static images on rotation.
