“average 50-59 year old weighs 5000 pounds” factoid actually just statistical error. Average person weighs 150 pounds. Pounds Georg, who lives in a cave and weighs over 50000000000000000000000000 pounds, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.

That’s a really well argued paragraph. But have you considered: why pet shaped if not for petting?
(Jokes aside though. Point taken. But there’s nothing you can say to kee p me from talking to them in baby talk from now on when I’m out gardening amongst them. Whose a big stripey boy? Yes you are, aren’t you? :))

t’s coming whether we like it or not.
Counterpoint: LLMs are a dead-end for AGI. And outsourcing tasks to a “sometimes correct, but very often wrong” bot starts looking like a not-so-good idea once you actually need to pay for the compute.

If you’re thinking of the list that I’m thinking of: that is completely unfounded. They started with the premise “AI will be perfect in 2 years” and then drew a graph that looked good-ish. There is no scientific value to it.

- German (native)
- English (pretty well I hope; half my work life and almost all my free time spent on the internet, shows, books,… has been happening in English since, like, 8th grade)
- Japanese (learning; enough for talking about food, the weather, hobbies,… in somewhat acceptable grammar 😄)

It absolutely is.
There’s also a lot of different variations of fetishes involving piss. For the “get pissed on / in / drink it” part of the fetish, I have a hunch that piss sits right on the boundary of gross/humiliating, but not actually harmful.
Well.
For me at least.

Shouldn’t it be the other way round? If I’m a guest at someones house, IMO I should go out of my way to do as the host does.

We really, really do. I miss r/PettyRevenge and cousins, plus r/TalesFromTechSupport.
- Comment on We all took foreign languages in school and none of us can actually speak those languages 4 months ago:
And yet, in non-English speaking countries, virtually every kid is taught English to a level that’s at least “roughly business”.
I also reject your premise of 8 hours / day for a year; how about 1-2 hours / day for 4-8 years.
In the case of English, school kids would get more like 2-4hrs per week and be perfectly fluent after a couple of years, btw.

How many math professors does it take to change a lightbulb?
The answer is trivial and left as an exercise to the reader.

I’ve actually been having a great time with simple-nixos-mailserver.
Running with a dedicated ipv4 at a highly reputable hoster, to my knowledge, I haven’t landed in a spam folder yet!

Wait, why? I thought I was generally gold at spotting these things, but here I’m struggling. The only thing that looks a little out of place to ne is the ring on his pointing hand, but that might genuinely be a dark band + shadow. What else have I missed?

About the same here, though I have to say… Reading the “3 hours per day” part out loud still seems… Insane somehow.
In a similar vein, I’m currently staying at my mom’s house, and the internet is too shit to use my Jellyfin. As a result, I haven’t been watching any shows, and my day seems to be infinitely longer, like a million more activities fit in the sake 24 hours.

FWIW, I went to school in mid-2000. My sibling even later. They still taught it back then, and at least here, I am pretty sure they still do. (And why would they not, after all…)

Literally noone I know in real life has any problem whatsoever reading analog clocks, no matter the “brain capacity”, neuro-typicality, state of drunkenness,… It is an extremely simple “skill”.

- Comment on Don't fix the problem just change the parameters 6 months ago:
Disagree - it rarely matters to me if it’s 13:24:56 or 13:25:05, but I do find the instant and intuitive gauging of time deltas super useful (as in, how long it’s going to be on to the full hour / two quarter past / … ). Not saying you can’t get that info from a digital clock as well, of course you can; but the physically of analog clocks lends a good bit of intuition, I feel.
