“Social Engineering” is a well known attack vector in cyber security. I can recommend “The Art of Deception” by Kevin Mitnick (or just read his wikipedia page, it’s wild).

And that -1/12 bs is why I cannot math.
it’s not actually math. It’s people coming up with alternative definitions and then feeling smug when their alternative definitions give weird results.
- Comment on How do I get one of those jobs where I send an email and then go to a meeting then draft an email then leave work and get paid $98,000/Year and have a badge on a little cord that says senior deputy analytics coordinator supervisor of marketing and sales? 1 week ago:
can confirm, and would like to add:
- it helps a lot to understand the org and the internal politics. (this is simpler as it sounds. just be generally nice to people and try to understand what they want, and what their actual position in the org are. Then think about what your actual position in the org is, and where it could be. The most important question is: What does my boss’s boss think what value I produce for him?)

I wouldn’t be surprised, it it turns out, when the most efficient way to turn lightning into electricity, was to redirect it into a boiler, instead of harvesting it directly

Yes, they did fire in all directions and some of there jokes did not age well. What is your point? Are you suggesting that they are evil because they were not 100% correct all the time?
(also iirc for that specific episode they did a correction 10 years later. )
- Comment on London stabbing rates vs X posts about London crime 3 months ago:
the isnt even a correlation in that graph. e.g. if you look that crime peak in 2023, there is absolutely no correlating peak or drop in the twitter posts.

when people post cropped porn, they should also post which porn they cropped, so people know which porn to avoid.
- Comment on Gravity! 5 months ago:
funfact: because water itself has weight, it produces gravity, therefore it pulls more water towards itself, therefore more water collects in some parts of the world than other.
for example: most of the extra water that comes from global warmings, collects at the pacific because it has a larger surface, therefore US Eastcoast and Europe see very little change in sealevel, while some pacific islands are already gone.
epistemic status: I remember reading this info a couple years ago, but the best source I can found now is that sentence from wikipedia:
Changing ice masses also affect the distribution of sea water around the globe through gravity en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_level_rise

I’m not asking you to spend all day trying to clean the park but you should at least do your best to not make it worse
that is a useful mindset for those who fear a systemic solution.
the people who would have to organise instead spend their effort on other things, like cleaning up dog shit; Or arguing how much shit you need to clean up, before you are morally allowed to advokate for a systemic solution.
the more the anti-dogshitters are splintered, the easier it is for the pro-dogshitters to keep the status quo

because of two bodies can not occupy the same space, the feather and the ball will be in different position when you drop them. And therefor gravitation will pull the earth slightly more toward the ball and slightly less toward the feather.

I like the explanation that devious spirits cannot say this phrase and that’s why it’s used
Evil spirits can not say the same word twice in a row. Foxes can not say “moshi”. With “moshi moshi” you get a 2-for-1 special.
