Last year, kids were saying “6, 7” for no particular reason; it was just a schoolyard meme. Old people like me started saying it. It wasn’t cool anymore because old people aren’t cool. This snack company is trying to ride the hottest trend about twelve months too late.

And for CDs, before the zero mark, there could be data. I think the X-Files TV show soundtrack had a couple of songs if you inserted the disc and immediately rewound before the starting zero. Like, in minus time. The table of contents apparently didn’t care about minus numbers.

Hidden grooves on records were not terribly common, as far as I am aware. I have Tool’s Undertow (which — if you have the CD version — you have already heard it) and a Monty Python record Tie and Handkerchief.
Not a terribly strong argument to preserve a format because I have no motivation to revisit either, but a fun little one time experience if you have either of those handy.

I didn’t find it sad. The writing was on the wall for physical media and I ripped it with the highest accuracy I could. I still have those albums in CD quality today.
That track at the end of Further Down the Spiral that relies on CD skipping is sort of lost to us, I guess. You can replicate it but kids won’t accidentally stumble upon it. Just like kids won’t accidentally stumble upon the “3rd spiral” of vinyl records. The Easter egg era is over.

“Ripping CDs” was a concerning term for non-technical friends even back then. I had to assure them it wouldn’t ruin their discs.

I just had a look because I have never had to service a toilet like this. The water shutoff appears to be easily accessible. As for any further work, an exposed tank is surely easier to deal with when a toilet misbehaves.
- Comment on The perfect date 2 weeks ago:
For daily use — like, if someone asks me the date — I don’t normally bother telling them the year anyway (nor the month, for that matter). But for situations wherein the year is important enough to mention, year/month/day all the way.

Is it actually a functional pipe or was it put there for the painting? Why does it bend up like that? Why is it just in the middle of the wall?

In a collision, you are much safer if you are facing backwards because your spine aligns with the back of the seat instead of you rag-dolling forwards. So turn those seats around, too. The design is very human.

Lean in and give them a hug. You will instantly be their best friend and it will shut them up. Stopping the feedback loop of negativity can be good for them too. Like, let people feel listened to and validated, but boundaries.

- Comment on Sage advice? 10 months ago:
I worked at a shelter and one night an indigenous man had a heart attack. An elder came in later that day, lit some sage and smudged the place. At one point she stopped, and ushered something unseen out the back door.
The guy wasn’t dead. He was stabilized at the hospital. He returned to the shelter that night.
I generally enjoy and appreciate these rituals for bringing the community together and collectively processing grief and reminding us we are all important to each other. I am even giving her the benefit that she maybe performed this extra bit only to bring peace to those experiencing loss. But, oof. I needed a post-cringe shower after that.

I am maybe in the minority around here. I am excited to play around with these games. Also, even though the narrator says you need to buy the accessory, I suspect the Labo thing or any of the cheap Switch VR headsets will do the trick, and that’s what I’m intending to use.

I don’t think the infrequent vibrations would contribute much to stem hardening. Granted, I’m not convinced the directly talking to plants thing contributes significantly to carbon monoxide harvesting. Just set up two USB powered fans that turn on and off every now and then. The gas you release as you sing My Humps from the kitchen will reach them.
